OHSWEKEN SPEEDWAY: Northern Summer Nationals tweaked for 2011

OHSWEKEN, ON - With the emphasis focused directly on solidifying Sprint Car racing in Southwestern Ontario, Ohsweken Speedway near Brantford, ON and South Buxton Raceway near Chatham, ON have assembled a four race miniseries for 2011 that will be sure to provide dirt Sprint Car fans an exciting option for midsummer racing entertainment.

With a commitment to action packed racing, Ohsweken Speedway has been the scene of a solid field of cars with fast paced, non-stop excitement for the growing legion of fans the past couple of seasons and remains the only weekly dirt track in Canada offering Sprint Car racing as their headline division. On the other hand, South Buxton Raceway which offers UMP sanctioned Late Models and Modifieds as their feature classes has struggled to lure a full field of Sprint Cars to their venue when they offer them as a special event.

With Mike Strevel of ASCS Sprints On Dirt, Mike Emhof of the Patriot Sprint Tour, and Mike Ferrell of the Southern Ontario Sprints agreeing to co-host these events as affiliate sanctioning bodies, and a strong regular field of CORR/Pak Sprints that support Ohsweken, a major step has been made to insuring a stellar field of cars fill the pit areas of both facilities as Ohsweken’s Northern Summer Nationals expands to the miniseries format. Invitations to participate have also been sent out to The Empire Super Sprints and the National Racing Alliance.

“This is a very positive step for Sprint Car fans in Southwestern Ontario” states Ken Pelkie, Ohsweken Director of Racing Operations. “Since 9-11 it has been increasingly difficult for race teams to cross the border and the economy, particularly in the U.S. has also affected the car counts supporting the traveling series. This miniseries will offer an opportunity for the sanctioning bodies to maintain a presence in Southwestern Ontario and provide entertainment and car counts the fans expect to see for special events” Pelkie concluded.

The four race miniseries will be promoted with the cooperation of Ohsweken Speedway’s Glenn Styres and Anne / Blake Outhouse of South Buxton Raceway. Ken Pelkie will act as series director with two events being staged at each of the facilities. Canadian Sprint Car Nationals technical rules will apply, however the racing format will be slightly different. Pill draw for heat race starting positions will take place and “passing points” will be used to determine how cars qualify for the “B” and “A” Main events. Points will be accumulated over the four race series with the top 10 point earners sharing in bonus money. In addition, the point champion of the four race series will be guaranteed a starting position in the 7th Annual CANADIAN SPRINT CAR NATIONALS scheduled to take place at Ohsweken Speedway Saturday, September 17th, 2011.

Ohsweken Speedway will kick off the miniseries June 24th with South Buxton Raceway running the following night, June 25th. The final two stages will take place August 19th at Ohsweken and August 20th at South Buxton where the miniseries champion will be crowned. Plenty of free (primitive) overnight camping is available at both venues.

The miniseries is an open competition event. All sprint car teams which abide by the administrative, technical, and procedural rules as set forth by series officials are welcome. Northern Summer Nationals officials reserve the right to reject any pre-entry / entry for any reason. No entry fee is required however an entry form must be completed before any track time is allowed. Driver changes are allowed as per event rules. All decisions made by Northern Summer Nationals managing officials are final.

Further information along with rules and procedures may be obtained by calling 1-888-720-7223 or emailing Ken Pelkie at pelkiekj@ebtech.net .

Please visit the official website of Ohsweken Speedway at www.ohswekenspeedway.com and South Buxton Raceway at www.southbuxtonraceway.com for all the latest news as preparations for the 2011 season continues.

Information will also be available as Ohsweken Speedway participates in several off season shows including the Canadian Motorsports Expo, January 21, 22, & 23 and Performance World, March 11, 12, &13 in Toronto at the International Centre. The New Speed and Custom Car Show, March 25, 26, & 27 in London at the Western Fair Grounds combining the former CPT Racing Experience with the annual London Autorama is also on the schedule plus a return visit to the Brantford Lynden Park Mall on April 13 to 16.

South Buxton will also be in attendance at the Speed and Custom Car Show in London as well as the Chatham Downtown Center Mall later in the spring where information on the miniseries will be available.

NCATS champ DJ Kennington to drive for BMR in NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 22, 2010) – Fresh off a championship season, Bill McAnally Racing has announced a special lineup of 2010 NASCAR champions who will compete under the BMR banner in next month’s NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown.

The three recently crowned NASCAR Touring Series champions will be competing for BMR in the eighth running of the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown on Jan. 28-29 at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale (Calif.). The event, which brings together the top racers from across North America, will be highlighted by the 225-lap NASCAR K&N Pro Series all-star race.

BMR’s Eric Holmes – who scored his third championship this season in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West – will be joined for the event by DJ Kennington, the 2010 champion in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1, and German Quiroga, the 2010 champion in the NASCAR Mexico Series. As 2010 NASCAR developmental series champions, all three have secured starting spots for the all-star event.

“We are very excited about this opportunity for BMR to field entries for three NASCAR champions in the biggest event of the year,” said BMR President Bill McAnally. “These drivers represent NASCAR racing in three countries and the Showdown provides them a chance to showcase their talent on a major stage together.”

Holmes of Escalon, Calif., is no stranger to the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown. The 36-year-old driver won the Elite portion of the event as a competitor in the former NASCAR Southwest Tour in 2004. In NASCAR K&N Pro Series action, he has two top-10 finishes in four starts at the all-star event.

“It’s pretty cool having three champions on our team,” Holmes said. “I’m really looking forward to it. We ran really, really well the last three years at the showdown. We’ve just had some bad luck. Hopefully, we can overcome that. I know we’re taking a new car there this year. I think we have a shot at winning.”

Kennington, meanwhile, will be making his first appearance in the prestigious postseason event.

“I’ve watched it on TV for a lot of years,” said the 33-year-old driver from St. Thomas, Ontario. “I always thought it would be pretty cool to be there and to actually get the opportunity to go is another part of this whole ‘dream come true’ season for me.”

Although it will be his first start in a BMR entry, not all the crew members on the team are strangers to him. Kennington previously worked with Matt Goslant, who is now the crew chief for Holmes.

“Matt was my crew chief in the (NASCAR) Nationwide Series,” Kennington said. “So, its’ going to be kind of cool to be there to hang out with my friends again and most importantly, try to go there and see if we can have a decent run.”
Quiroga, who won back-to-back championships in the NASCAR Mexico Series in 2009 and 2010, will also be appearing for the first time at the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown.

“For me it is a great opportunity,” Quiroga said. “We’ve been trying to do this for many years. I think it’s a first step and we’re looking to do well in the race and to see what we can achieve in 2011.”

Quiroga said he looks forward to representing his series in the all-star event.

“For me, it’s an honor,” said the 30-year-old driver from Mexico City. “I’ve been champion for two years in a row. For me, to represent all the drivers that compete in the NASCAR series in Mexico, it’s great to have this opportunity and I’m going to do my best.”

In addition to the three champions, also mounting the charge for BMR at the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown will be the team’s two other full-time drivers, Paulie Harraka and Moses Smith.

“We were already excited at BMR to be bringing three of this year’s top four drivers in the series to the showdown,” McAnally said. “We want to build on BMR’s success this season with a strong performance in the all-star race. We are confident in the talent and fortunate that we have just added some great cars to the inventory, which were obtained from Rusty Wallace Incorporate and Michael Waltrip Racing.”

In addition to the secured starting spots for the 2010 champions of NASCAR’s developmental series, the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown also provides secured spots for race winners of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series from the 2010 season. The 225-lap main event is broken up into three sections – two 100-lap segments preceding a 25-lap dash to the finish.

The schedule also includes a 75-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Super Late Model race and a 50-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model race. The top five NASCAR state champions in attendance will have secured starting spots in the Late Model race. New to this year, the 25-car fields for each of those races will be set by a pair of heat races – 25 laps for the Super Late Models and 20 laps for the Late Models.

Both nights of racing will air live on SPEED.

TORONTO STAR / WHEELS: Norris McDonald on the CME

Norris McDonald did a nice piece on the Canadian Motorsports Expo on the Toronto Star / Wheels.ca blog this morning. Thank you Norris!

"If having IZOD IndyCar Champion — and two-time winner of the Molson/Honda Indy Toronto — Dario Franchitti at next month’s Canadian Motorsports Expo wasn’t enough, the news today is that NASCAR Nationwide Series champ Brad Keselowski is coming too.

Fans will be able to meet, greet and get an autograph from Keselowski — who’s a pretty good NASCAR Sprint Cup Series star as well — on Sun, Jan. 23, at the International Centre out by Toronto Pearson.

Franchitti will be the headliner at the Expo the day before. The show opens on the Friday evening with a special Ontario stock car racing show built around a late model car belonging to the late — and legendary — “Daytona” Don Biederman and a panel featuring Junior Hanley.

From humble beginnings five years ago, the Canadian Motorsports Expo has become a must-attend event. Held in the dead of winter, the Expo features special guests like Franchitti and Keselowski, manufacturer and speedway displays, panel discussions (translation: arguments) and other attractions that always help to get the juices flowing...."

NASCAR star Brad Keselowski is coming to the Canadian Motorsports Expo

TORONTO, ON - Canadian racing fans will have an opportunity to meet – and get an autograph from – one of NASCAR’s top young stars when Brad Keselowski appears at the Canadian Motorsports Expo on Sunday, January 23, 2011. The show takes place Jan. 21-23 at Toronto’s International Centre.

This past summer, Keselowski won the NASCAR Nationwide Series championship, driving for respected team owner Roger Penske. In 2011, the Michigan native will pilot Penske’s legendary ‘Blue Deuce’ #2 Miller Lite Dodge in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

The second-generation racer won a Sprint Cup race at Talladega in 2009 and has a total of 12 Nationwide Series victories to his credit, in addition to his championship in that series. Keselowski – who has also raced for Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s JR Motorsports – made headlines in 2010 with his intense, head-to-head battle with Carl Edwards. The 26-year-old is a talented, popular and somewhat controversial driver whose star is clearly on the rise.

Immediately prior to appearing at the Canadian Motorsports Expo, Keselowski will take part in pre-season testing at the newly-resurfaced Daytona International Speedway, in advance of Speedweeks 2011 and the Daytona 500. Keselowski is no stranger to appearing in Canada, having raced in the NASCAR Nationwide Series events at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in recent years.

“I’m looking forward to coming to Toronto and meeting the fans at the Canadian Motorsports Expo on Sunday, January 23,” said Brad Keselowski. “Michigan is obviously very close to Canada and we have a lot of great fans up there. The Q&A and Autograph Session should be a lot of fun.”

Speaking about Keselowski’s appearance, on behalf of the Canadian Motorsports Expo, David Weber said, “We’re very excited to be able to have Brad Keselowski appear at the 5th Annual CME. With testing at Daytona the same weekend as the show, it took a lot of work to make this happen. I’d especially like to thank Jesse Dickerson of Gaylord Sports Management, as well as Brad Keselowski’s ‘Checkered Flag Foundation’ (www.checkeredflagfoundation.org) for their efforts on this.” The CFF is a charitable organization that strives to support individuals who have sacrificed greatly, including military members, veterans, first-responders and their families, among others.

Keselowski will be the headline NASCAR component of the 5th Annual CME, which will also feature Jeff Gordon’s new-look #24 AARP ‘Drive To End Hunger’ Sprint Cup car, Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s #88 AMP Energy Chevrolet Sprint Cup car, NASCAR Canadian Tire Series champion DJ Kennington and his #17 Castrol Dodge, and much more.

Throughout its existence, the Canadian Motorsports Expo has been a showcase for celebrity racer appearances, from Canada and around the world. Stars like Ron Fellows, Jacques Villeneuve, Matt Kenseth, Paul Tracy, Derek Daly, Miguel & Yvon Duhamel and many, many more have graced the CME stage for fan Q&A and autograph sessions.

Visit the CME website (www.CanadianMotorsportsExpo.com) for more details about Brad Keselowski’s appearance at the CME, including times for the Fan Q&A and Autograph Sessions.

Kawartha Speedway 2011 - From the Drawing Board to the Blacktop

Saturday night may be alright for fighting, but Central Ontario’s Friday night place to race is Kawartha Speedway.  With a highly successful 10th Anniversary campaign as their template, officials at the Fraserville, Ontario 3/8th mile oval recently put the finishing touches on the 2011 schedule.  Based on the growth and level of success achieved in 2010, General Manager and Promoter Derek Lynch firmly believes the 10 race schedule is the best recipe for the track to follow.

“Even though some people had their doubts at first, we had one of most successful seasons in years,” said Lynch.  “The car counts were amazing, with more than 102 different drivers scoring points for starting at least 1 race in our NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Model, Better Carpet Thunder Car and Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rentals Mini Stock divisions.  The mini stocks have a number of very talented young drivers with the potential to move-up through our different divisions.  That’s something any track promoter can be proud to say.”

Another point in Kawartha Speedway’s favour is the success its drivers have enjoyed at other tracks.  During the most recent running of Peterborough Speedway’s Autumn Colours weekend, Mike Nelson and Daryl Fice each earned top 5 finishes in the mini stock main event, while late model pilots Bryan Mercer and Ryan Kimball finished 2nd and 3rd respectively against some very tough competition. Late model graduate Brandon Watson earned the checkered flag in the OSCAAR main event.  Lynch also gives a ‘tip of the hat’ to Kawartha’s latest track champions.

“Chris Morrow had a strong, very consistent season but still only managed to capture the late model crown by 31 points over Dan McHattie.  Willie Reyns claimed a second thunder car title, just 30 markers ahead of Chad Strawn.  Mini stock champ Mike Nelson rose to the top of the heap only 29 points ahead of ‘Too’ Moroney.  Each battle came down to the final night of the year,” said Lynch.  “In itself, that’s an amazing statistic and makes drivers eager to race here because they know they’re running against some of the best short trackers around.”

The first on track activity for the 2011 regular season is a test session Friday, May 27th for Kawartha’s 3 weekly divisions and drivers from any other track interested in shaking-down their new equipment.  The opening night for track points is Friday, June 3rd as the OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Models join the action.  The annual 150 lap late model Summer Sizzler is on the agenda for Friday, July 8th.  Things wrap-up with the annual NASCAR Canadian Tire Series 250 Saturday, September 24th.  The full schedule will be available soon at www.kawarthaspeedway.com.

Dario Franchitti is coming to the Canadian Motorsports Expo!

 Dario Franchitti

REIGNING INDYCAR / INDY 500 CHAMP DARIO FRANCHITTI IS COMING TO THE CANADIAN MOTORSPORTS EXPO!

The Racing Season Begins January 21-23, 2011 at Toronto’s International Centre

(TORONTO, ON // December 15, 2010) Motorsports fans will have an opportunity to see and chat with one of the world’s most popular and successful racers on Saturday, January 22 at the Canadian Motorsports Expo. Three-time IndyCar Series champ and two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti will appear live at the CME to participate in a fan Q&A / Autograph Session.

The Scottish-born driver, who has also competed in NASCAR, Grand-Am and ALMS during his career, recently overcame a 12-point deficit heading into the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, to secure his third IndyCar Series crown. And back in May, the Nashville, TN resident won his second career Indy 500 trophy, making him the simultaneous reigning champion for both the IndyCar Series and one of the world’s most prestigious and coveted races.

Discussing his upcoming appearance at the CME, Franchitti said, “I’m really excited about coming to Toronto and the Canadian Motorsports Expo, in January. I always have a great time racing there each summer and it will be good to connect with Canadian racing fans during a weekend when I don’t have to focus on trying to win a race. I’m looking forward to talking with the fans and signing autographs at the CME.”

The CME’s David Weber is equally enthused about Franchitti coming to the show. “Racing fans around the world know about the Indy 500 and the IndyCar Series. Canadian fans have a special connection to the series because of our rich history of excellent IndyCar Series events and the fact that Canada has produced so many top drivers in the series. We’re honoured to be able to have Dario – a true champion at the top of his profession – appear at the Canadian Motorsports Expo on Saturday, January 22.”

Throughout its existence, the Canadian Motorsports Expo has been a showcase for celebrity racer appearances, from Canada and around the world. Stars like Ron Fellows, Jacques Villeneuve, Matt Kenseth, Paul Tracy, Derek Daly, Miguel & Ivan Duhamel and many, many more have graced the CME stage for fan Q&A and autograph sessions.

The CME has also featured world-famous racing machines, including the NASCAR Cup cars of Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jeff Gordon, as well as F1 and IndyCar vehicles.

Hinchcliffe IndyCar Test Q&A

Toronto, Canada (December 15, 2010) – High winds and cold temperatures failed to stop Canada’s James Hinchcliffe enjoying his first outing in an IndyCar as the 24-year-old concluded two days of testing with the legendary Newman/Haas Racing outfit yesterday, Tuesday 14th December, at Sebring International Raceway, Florida.

Hinchcliffe, a three-time race winner and runner-up in the 2010 Firestone Indy Lights Series, reveled in the opportunity to test the Honda-Dallara-Firestone IndyCar package for the first time at the 1.65-mile permanent road course. Joined by veteran racer, Oriol Servia, the duo braved some unseasonal elements but successfully worked through their respective test programs for the Illinois-based team.Setting a fastest time of 52.8 seconds from 81 laps recorded on Tuesday, ‘Hinch’ was happy to download his thoughts on his maiden IndyCar test:

Q: How was your first time flat-out in an IndyCar?

James Hinchcliffe (JH): “I'll tell you, the biggest thing that impressed me in those first few laps was the engine. The increase in power from the lights car was significant, so the first time going flat-out was a bit of a wake up call. I had to remind myself, “Alright James, this isn't a lights car, let's get it together and figure this thing out!”

Q: Did the team have a ‘rookie’ program for you to follow and if so what did you concentrate on specifically?

JH: “Absolutely. My program was tailored to a rookie. Driver development rather than car development! The first day was really about acclimatizing myself with the car - the extra power, the downforce, the brakes - and getting used to some of the procedural stuff on the team side. “For day two we worked more on setup changes that gave me a feel for how certain changes affect the car, all the while building a working relationship with the team. Ok, we may have had some fun and tried to go fast when we found some spare time!”

Q: Sebring seemed cold – did that have any impact on your time in the car?

JH: “It made my time in the car cold!!! I couldn't feel my toes half of the time. Luckily it didn't have any impact on how many miles we did, but certainly did on what time of day we ran and the performance of certain aspects of the car. They were definitely not the best conditions, but the team did a great job of making the best of it.

“To be honest, it wasn't so bad for me, strapped into a nice warm racecar, but I feel for the mechanics and engineers who were working out in the freezing cold all day! True professionals!”

Q: Was your head buzzing on Monday night digesting your first day’s running?

JH: “Absolutely! I'd like to lie and say it was no big thing, but there was just so much to take in! Not only is it a new team, car, etc., the IndyCar has so much more telemetry to go through, and the analysis is a much bigger part of how they operate. It was a change, but I really enjoyed that side of it. The more info I can cram into my head the better!”

Q: You were running with the team alongside Oriol Servia – how much time did you spend with him and were you working together on anything?

JH: “Oriol and I sat together for every debrief and we were usually on track at the same time to make sure we were running in the same conditions. It was great for me because he is such an experienced guy that I could pull so much from him, especially on day one. By day two I was at a level where the team could evaluate a change with both drivers, so it was good for me to reach that point and be able to contribute to the team’s development plan.”

Q: Given that NHR’s reputation and pedigree goes before them – what was it like behind the wheel of one of their IndyCars and following in the tire tracks of some legendary names?

JH: “It was phenomenal. You know they are such a legendary outfit, and so professional, I was incredibly lucky to have gotten my first crack at the big cars with them. More so even than driving the car was going to their race shop. That's when the history and pedigree of the team hits you like a Mack truck!”

Q: Testing is one thing, racing is another! How badly do you want to race an IndyCar now that you’ve tested one?

JH: “Every time you test a new car the first thought is, ‘ok, now let's go racing!’. The big difference is normally if you move up from F2000 to Star Mazda, or Mazda to Indy Lights, you don't know or haven't heard of a lot of the people you are racing against. With this step, you know them all because you've been watching them on TV!

“It's a little intimidating thinking of the possibility of sharing the track with guys like Franchitti, Power and Dixon. But at the end of the day it's just another car and they are just another group of drivers you have to go out and race your hardest against.”

Q: “You’ve had a bunch of positive feedback since being announced for the test. Presumably only a full-time ride in the IndyCar Series will suffice now?

JH: “Certainly after testing with NHR and seeing the response from fans and colleagues and everyone, it would be really hard to swallow not being on the grid next year. Having said that there are still a lot of things that have to fall into place for that to happen. We are incredibly focused on achieving that goal and if anything seeing the support from so many people has just made me push that much harder to pull it off.”

Waterbury, VT – Two-time ACT Série Castrol Champion, Donald Theetge from Quebec City, Canada is the first to file an entry for the inaugural Goodyear Speedweek Cup event to be held at the New Smyrna Speedway (NSS) in Florida on Sunday, February 13th and Monday, February 14th as part of the World Series of Asphalt Short Track Racing.

The "World Series" will host the American Canadian Tour (ACT) for the first time in February of 2011. A field of between 26 and 30 teams are expected to make the migration to the warmer Florida climate from all over New England and the provinces of Quebec and Ontario.

The recently announced purse of over $33,000.00 brought immediate reaction from veteran competitor Theetge, "I am very proud to be the first to enter this event. I have raced with ACT for over 20 years and try to support them in any way I can. This will be a great way to bring my team from the cold and snow of Quebec City to Florida for a mid-winter break. We are all looking forward to it."  Theetge is considered one of the best ACT stars on tracks of ½ mile or longer. The very fast, banked ½ mile at NSS is expected to suit his style.

The format for the Goodyear Speedweek Cup will be unique to the World Series. The innovative ACT plus/minus heat system will set the starting field for the first 100-lap event on Sunday evening, February 13th. Drivers will be awarded 1 point for a win in the feature event, 3 points for third etc. An inversion of the Sunday feature will determine the starting field for the second 100-lap race on Monday evening. The purse will be broken down with $15,000 paid in the two features and $18,000 will be paid to the overall positions when combining the points from the two features, a similar format to the famous Milk Bowl held annually at ACT's home track, Thunder Road Speedbowl in Barre, Vermont. Low score wins the Goodyear Speedweek Cup and the lion's share of the $18,000.00 bonus money.

"We wanted to show fans something a little different at New Smyrna for our first ever appearance. This format should be very entertaining for the fans and it should spread the money around a little and give all our teams a chance to have some fun and hopefully help each with some of their expenses," said Tom Curley, President of the American Canadian Tour.

Kennington Enjoys Memorable Week in Charlotte

December 12, 2010. Castrol Edge Dodge driver DJ Kennington was in Charlotte, North Carolina this past week to accept congratulations and his championship ring as the 2010 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Champion. The NASCAR Gala Night of Champions took place in the Crown Ballroom at the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Kennington thanked his family and many team members in attendance and then had an enormous surprise for everyone. Kennington stole the show by getting down on one knee as he offered an engagement ring to his girlfriend Jamie who joyfully accepted and the two were given a standing ovation.

The black tie affair on Saturday was the culmination of a week of activities for NASCAR Champions including Kennington who participated in numerous functions including the annual Go Kart Challenge and exclusive tours of several prominent NASCAR team headquarters.

By the time the week of activity had concluded Kennington was both exhausted and elated. “This was such an incredible week here in Charlotte” said Kennington. “NASCAR did so much for us. It was wonderful to have my family here and so many of my team members who are just like family to me. For Castrol and the amazing support they’ve shown me for seventeen years, they made me what I am and I’m proud to have won this title for them” he added.

Keeping the engagement announcement a surprise on top of the many other duties for the champion was no easy task. “It sure wasn’t easy” said the smiling Kennington. “I was a bit nervous about keeping it quiet but the NASCAR folks and everyone who helped organize the dinner and all of activities helped out and it worked out perfectly. Jamie has been really supportive and understanding when I have to miss a family function to be at a race and this just seemed like the perfect way to ask her to be by my side for the rest of our lives”.

The busy off season for the Castrol Edge Dodge team will continue. Next month Kennington will have his championship Castrol Edge Dodge on display and attend the 58th Rogers London Sports Celebrity Dinner & Auction taking place January 17th at the London Convention Centre. Race fans can keep up to date with the latest team news in several ways. Race fans should bookmark the team website www.djkracing.ca and follow them on twitter, www.twitter.com/djkracing Fans are also encouraged to join the Facebook Group DJK Racing.

Benjamin Distaulo Takes the Helm of the Lombardi Honda Racing Team

Courtesy Lombardi Honda Racing

Montreal (Quebec), December 9, 2010.- 2009 and 2010 Canadian Touring Car Champion, Lombardi Honda Racing is already looking ahead to the 2011 season and is happy to announce Benjamin Distaulo’s appointment as manager of the racing team. Benjamin Distaulo, who competed in open wheel in the 1990’s and in different sedan series in recent seasons (2008 Echo Cup Runner-up and eighth in the 2010 Canadian Touring Car Championship with Lombardi Honda Racing), now takes the helm of the team, replacing Tony Lombardi, who will remain as team owner.

"Being involved in professional-level motorsports, with three Honda Civic Si’s in the Canadian Touring Car Championship as we did in 2009 and 2010, is something very important that requires a lot of time. This was no longer compatible with my other professional obligations," said Tony Lombardi. "Lombardi Honda has offered the position of Team manager to Benjamin Distaulo, which includes overseeing all of the race operations and gives him the authority to decide amongst the driver options that are available to our team for 2011. Benjamin is not only an excellent driver but he has also demonstrated that he is capable to successfully manage a team with Distaulo Racing, which has evolved in the provincial championship and in the Touring class of the 2010 Canadian Championship."

Benjamin Distaulo is happy with the appointment, even if it could mean taking a hiatus from driving one of the Super Touring Honda Civic Si’s in competition in the near future

"Getting behind the wheel in 2011 is not out of the question but my Lombardi Honda Racing team managerial position takes priority," said Distaulo. "I’m being presented with a good challenge and I would like to thank Tony Lombardi for his confidence."

In addition to being one of the Lombardi Honda Racing team drivers in 2010, Benjamin Distaulo also launched his own racing team, which was immediately successful as their regular driver Michel Dulong was crowned Québec GT4 champion at the wheel of an Acura. The team also took part in some rounds of the Canadian Touring Car Championship with a Touring class Honda Civic.

Lombardi Honda Racing claimed the 2010 Canadian Touring Car Championship with regular drivers Nick Witmer (driver’s champion) and Benjamin Distaulo. They would like to wish season’s greetings and thank the following partners for the role they played in the team’s success: Lombardi Honda, Trim Line Montréal, Discount, Pole-Position Magazine, Distaulo Racing (Puma), Perry Auto Parts, Gulf and Pneu Nicoletti. Thank you also goes to all of the team’s fans and to the people involved in Canadian and Quebec motorsport.

All information regarding the Lombardi Honda dealership is available on the site www.lombardihonda.com. For more information on the racing team, visit the site www.lombardiracing.com or go to the Lombardi Honda Racing page on Facebook or to Youtube for team videos.

In addition, heading into next year, we now go in knowing what it takes>
 to win at this level."

Like all racers at this time of year, Pritiko is already on the hunt for
sponsorship for next year, and with his impressive record in 2010, he
offers great value to any potential sponsor.

"We are already hard at work on planning for next year," Pritiko said.
"We needed to take some time to reflect back on this year, and we have
done that. Now it is full steam ahead for next season."

Robert Yates Racing Engines Named Exclusive Supplier of SPEC Engine For NASCAR

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 6, 2010) – NASCAR has announced that Robert Yates Racing Engines has been named the exclusive supplier of the NASCAR-Approved Spec Engine.

The engine, which was introduced in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series in 2006 as an optional means for managing costs and providing teams with additional opportunities to compete, is also available for use in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tours, and the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. It is also an option for NASCAR Camping World Truck Series teams at select tracks.

“The SPEC engine program has clearly established itself as a competitive, economical alternative for many of our teams,” said Richard Buck, NASCAR director of touring series. “As the sport works to establish ways to better manage costs, the option to be able to run the SPEC engine has provided additional teams the opportunity to run in more races and be competitive.”

The program provides teams with the opportunity to buy the NASCAR-Approved SPEC engine from Robert Yates Racing Engines, a racing engine and parts company owned by Robert Yates and Chris Davy, pre-assembled or as a kit and have their own designated engine builder perform the assembly.

“We’re excited to be part of NASCAR’s on-going efforts to provide affordable alternatives for racers throughout this sport,” said Robert Yates, the former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion car owner and engine builder. “Since its debut, the SPEC engine has clearly proven its worth under the rigor of competition. We look forward continuing with the same high-level of service, engine power and quality.”

The SPEC engine achieved tremendous success with Wegner Motorsports, which served as exclusive supplier from 2007-2009. Wegner is diversifying its business and will continue to produce engines for various forms of motorsports and support RYRE through the transition period.

“I am happy to have been involved with the NASCAR SPEC engine from its inception,” said Carl Wegner. “I will still be available to Robert Yates Racing Engines to help in the transition of this great program. I wish nothing but continued success to NASCAR and the SPEC engine program.”

Matt Kobyluck recorded the first win with a SPEC engine in the 2006 NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown, the premier post-season event for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series. Joey Logano was the first driver to win a championship driving the SPEC engine exclusively in the 2007 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season. Over the last three years, the champions in both the East and West have used the SPEC engine and it has been the power for every race win in both series.

The SPEC motor was introduced to the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour in 2008, and the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series in 2009. This past year, it was available for NASCAR Camping World Truck Series teams at tracks 1.25 miles and under in length.

Teams can contact Robert Yates Racing Engines directly at (704) 660-7015 or visit www.RYR.com. For more information, contact: Jason Christley, NASCAR Public Relations, (386) 310-6094.

Antoine L’Estage and Nathalie Richard Named to the All-America Auto Racing Team

Montréal (Québec), December 5, 2010. – The names Antoine L’Estage and Nathalie Richard continue to be synonymous with success. The North American Triple Crown winners have just been named to the 2010 All-America Auto Racing Team by the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association (AARWBA). This latest award is the last in series of achievements the team has accomplished in this unprecedented season.

Antoine L’Estage and Nathalie Richard are capping off an amazing year after winning the Rally America series in July and a bronze medal at the ESPN X Games in August. They clinched the North American Rally Championship in September and claimed the Canadian Rally Championship in November.

It’s an honour to be voted onto the First Team along with great racing names including Dario Franchitti, Jimmie Johnson, Will Power, and Kyle Busch. confides Antoine L’Estage. I’m proud to be the only woman on the Team - all co-drivers appreciate being recognized for their accomplishments alongside their drivers adds Nathalie Richard. No other Canadians have been named to the First Team of All-Americans since Ron Fellows in 2004.

For over forty years, the AARWBA has been selecting an annual All-America Racing Team. The Team is recognized by the Associated Press, Reuters, and major publications as the only one of its kind in motor sports. Each year, the driver with the most votes wins the Jerry Titus Memorial Award as the Driver of the Year. The AARWBA awards banquet will take place on Sunday, January 9th in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Antoine L’Estage holds three North American titles (2007, 2008 and 2010), three Canadian championship titles (2006, 2007, 2010), one American title (2010) and twenty-five overall victories in Canada and the United States. Nathalie Richard holds six overall national championships (Canada 2004, 2007, 2010 and USA 2004, 2005, 2010) and thirty-one national victories on both sides of the border. The North American title she clinched in September is her sixth in seven years.

Antoine L’Estage and Nathalie Richard were the only ones to compete in the entire 2010 Rally America and Canadian Rally Championships, with the support of Rockstar Energy Drink, Royal Group, Yokohama Tires, Mitsubishi Canada, Drenth Motorsport Gearboxes, Garrett Turbos, Énergie Cardio, Libra Racing, Driver's Edge Autosport (OMP), and VP Racing Fuels.
