DIRTCAR: Big-Block Modifieds On Track For Florida In 40th DIRTcar Nationals At Volusia!

Weedsport, NY – November 28, 2010 – The distance will not match that covered decades earlier in the epic adventure ‘Around The World In 80 Days,’ yet in exactly 80 more days the mighty Big-Block Modifieds from the Northeast will be trackside more than 1,000 miles away from their home base to open a brand new season.

The 40th Florida DIRTcar Nationals By University of Northwestern Ohio at Volusia Speedway Park, Feb. 8-19, 2011, will be highlighted by the annual pilgrimage south to the Sunshine State for the Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds.

The stars and cars from the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series and the All-Star Circuit of Champions get the action started with DIRTcar UMP Modifieds during the first week of racing. Then on the second week, World of Outlaws Late Models and Big-Block Modifieds from the Super DIRTcar Series race to the checkered flag to complete 12 thrilling nights of intense high-speed action, including double features every night.

The Free Fan Pit Pass will be back in 2011, giving fans a unique experience to see the drivers and crews up close as they prepare to tackle one of dirt track racing’s biggest and fastest ovals — all for the same price as general admission. Plus, off the track, don’t miss the DIRTcar Nationals Midway — a race fan’s mega mall right behind the main grandstands with the newest apparel and souvenirs plus a wide variety of food from steak to pork chops to ice cream. There’s definitely something for everybody at the DIRTcar Nationals.

Florida DIRTcar Nationals 2011 at Volusia officially kicks off DIRTcar Racing’s 36th consecutive season of operation with the Northeastern Modifieds in action for the 14th straight year during the week leading up to the Daytona 500 (Feb. 20). The schedule begins with three 30-lap main events and the curtain drops with a big 50-lap finale to close out the Big-Block tour. The ‘11 edition marks the 27th trek to Florida for Northeastern Modified teams since 1978 and it will be DIRTcar's 20th visit to Volusia since staging its inaugural event in 1982.

Recently crowned overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar points king Matt Sheppard will be back to defend his Florida tour title, with some of the biggest names in Big-Block Modified racing looking to unseat the talented 28 year-old from Waterloo, N.Y.

A star-studded field of 44 DIRTcar Modified drivers signed in at VSP last February, with Canadian standout Stewart Friesen from Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario capturing the opener while Sheppard scored back-to-back victories to clinch the points championship. 2010 Super DIRT Week SEF Small Engine Fuels 200 Presented by Ferris/Snapper/Simplicity winner Friesen followed runner-up Dale Planck from Cortland, N.Y. on the final points chart with Empire State travelers Bobby Varin and Jimmy Phelps completing the top-five.

Located a half-hour from Daytona Beach, this famed facility has seating for nearly 10,000 fans. Coming up next February, the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series (Feb. 11-13) and World of Outlaws Late Model Series (Feb. 17 & 19) will join the Big-Blocks (Feb. 16-19) in kicking off their own race seasons. DIRTcar Late Models (Feb. 14-16, 18) and DIRTcar UMP Modifieds (Feb. 8-15) add to the 12-day DIRTcar Racing marathon down south with two nights of All-Star Circuit of Champions (Feb. 9 & 10) sprint specials opening up the month.

CARROLL AND EVERSLEY TO DRIVE FOR COMPASS360 RACING IN 2011

(Toronto, Canada) -- Hot on the heels of the announcement of the drivers of the team's #74 car, Compass360 Racing today revealed that Keith Carroll will pair with Ryan Eversley in the #75 Honda Civic Si for the 2011 Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge season. Eversley, who finished fourth driving #75 in last year's Street Tuner-class driver standings will co-drive with Carroll, no stranger to the Grand-Am paddock, having driven a Porsche Cayman in 2010.

"I'm really excited to be back with the Compass360 guys again," noted Eversley. "I had a near-perfect year with Zach (Lutz), with a run of five straight podiums in the mid-season. I know Keith will do a great job in the first stint, giving me a car I can fight for wins and ultimately, the championship."

Honda Performance Development (HPD) and Skunk2 will once again extend their support to the team in 2010, along with partners Powerslot Rotors, Cobalt Brakes, OMP / Driver's Edge and Rays Engineering.

"We're going to have some interesting inter-team battles next year," remarked Team Principal Karl Thomson. "Zach and Ryan were co-drivers last year, and now they'll be on track together in the closing stages of each race. They'll have equal cars and no team orders, so expect some pretty heated action! Both cars have strong driver line-ups capable of winning, and the only instruction is 'don't hit your team-mates'."

As for Carroll, he's looking forward to trying to out-qualify last year's champion, David Thilenius, who will drive the opening stint in #74. "I had fun in the Porsches and BMWs over the past few seasons, but I'm really excited to work with Ryan to be the top-qualifying Compass360 car. Dave's going to set the bar pretty high and I'm really looking forward to tossing my front-wheel drive Honda around and being in hunt."

Technical Director Ray Lee said, "We've got #74 and #75 with great driver line-ups again. We've finished first and third in the (Street Tuner) Driver's standings two years in a row and we're going to try and do that again. It's never easy in this series, and the challenge is what makes winning in Grand-Am so special."

The team will be at Daytona for testing in early January, with the first Continental Tire race only a few months away, in Daytona on January 27-28 in the lead-up to the Rolex 24 hour event. It will be televised on SPEED TV.

Compass360 Racing (C360R) is the motorsports division of Compass360 Branding Communications, a firm offering marketing expertise to clients in diverse industries across North America. The team, with support from Honda Performance Development (HPD), fields four front-running Honda Civic Si's in Grand-Am's Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, and won series Championships in 2010, 2009 and 2007. The team also won the 2010 Canadian Touring Car Championship, with support from Durabond. For details visit http://C360R.com

Lucas Oil Returns to Sponsor the Empire Super Sprint Tour for 2011

SYRACUSE, NY – As the 28th season for the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) came to a close this past weekend at the annaual awards banquet.  At that time the popular 360 sprint car organization was pleased to announce the return of Lucas Oil as the tour sponsor.  Once again ESS will be known as the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints.

Over the past four years, the Lucas Oil sponsorship came from their Canadian division in Mississaugua, Ontario.  This year, the agreement was reached through the main headquarters in Corona, California.  What stays the same is the tremendous support from one of the industry leaders in lubricants towards some of the best winged sprint car drivers from both the Northeastern United States and Canada.

“We were very fortunate to have a strong relationship with Steve Snowden who headed the Canadian division.  Steve helped out so many in the Northeast and Canada not only with ESS but with dirt modifieds, small blocks, sportsman cars and many others.” said ESS President Chuck Miller.  “We are just honored that main office in California has decided to support ESS once again as well as other programs in our area.  We had a tremendous 2010 tour with record car counts and knowing that our tour sponsor is signed going into the 2011 we hope the support will even grow.”

With the new agreement comes a new logo which incorporates the traditional ESS blue color and slogan of  “America’s Race Cars” into the famous Lucas Oil shield.  The catchy logo will be seen at each and every ESS event in 2011.  The ESS website also has new look in its header that is up and running with the this official release.

The new season is still months away but it’s already looking promising with the tour sponsor signing, all the top teams returning to follow the tour as well as several new teams that will become fulltime ESS travelers for 2011.  Also, for the fans, the new policy of double-file restarts for next season will make all events even more thrilling.

The Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints, champions Poirier, Barger and Yonge along with Hebing, Cook, Ward Jr., Parent, Wickham, Stelter, McDonald, Jones, Donath, Barney, Caron, Weigand, Cain, Sparks, Rand and so many others…for 2011 it will continue the tradition for over 28 years of excitement guaranteed!

Michigan International Speedway: More fan improvements coming for 2011

BROOKLYN, Mich. (Nov. 23, 2010) – In its continuing commitment to improve the guest experience at the racetrack, a number of construction projects will take place at Michigan International Speedway this winter in anticipation of the 43rd season of racing at the venerable two-mile oval.

Besides the redesign of the track’s scoreboard which was announced two weeks ago, the biggest wintertime project will see three of the silver, general admission grandstands taken down, near the Turn 3 area. This will decrease the track’s capacity by 12,000 seats and have a positive impact on guests. Provisions to re-seat guests who were in those grandstands in 2010 are being made.

The track is exploring options for the area, including the potential for trackside camping and hospitality.

Replacing the older silver seats with more comfortable, fan-friendly seats has been a priority for MIS. The track has been replacing stands and widening seats over the past four years, a move Curtis hopes to complete in the near future with steel and seats that were acquired from the former Pikes Peak International Raceway several years ago.

“These aren’t sexy, splashy projects, but they are completely necessary in making our guests’ time here more comfortable and better,” track President Roger Curtis said. “We are getting our facility back to where it should be capacity-wise. In 2011, we’ll be at nearly 108,000 grandstand seats, so this reduced capacity will have a domino-effect that will help us with our traffic efforts, with wait times at the gates, concession stands and restrooms, and the overall experience here.”

Other new projects include additional parking for handicapped guests, as well as paving a new tram route from the speedway’s Lot 10 to the frontstretch area of the New Holland Fan Plaza. A tram drop-off point to service the Fan Plaza will be next to the Chalet Village hospitality area near the tunnel entrance to the track.

“The cleanliness, promptness and friendliness of all the tram staff made the tram ride part of the fun,” race fan Marji McIntosh of Perrysburg, N.Y. said following the June 2010 race weekend. “Every person we encountered had nice things to say. We absolutely loved the trams and hospitality and enjoyed visiting MIS for the first time this year.”

“About 60 percent of our fans use the trams, so while paving a lot or creating a new tram route on the surface doesn’t seem very cool, it is necessary and most importantly, our guests have asked for it,” Curtis added. “It’s funny how an improvement like a tram route can make a major impact on a lot of people.”

Finally, the track will receive a second network TV broadcast booth to accommodate its national television broadcast partners. In June, there will be three networks on site to broadcast the speedway’s events — SPEED, ESPN and TNT.

In all, about $3 million will be spent on upgrades and changes at the track this off-season.

MIS has spent about $55 million over the past four years improving the facility, allowing fans, media and corporate partners to get the most out of a race weekend at MIS. With a new suite/media center building, wider seats, larger gates, bigger grandstands, signage and camping, guests who haven’t been to MIS in a while may not recognize the track.

The track has also lowered its ticket prices and offered flexible payment plans to accommodate race fans’ budgets by introducing a tiered ticket pricing strategy with NASCAR Sprint Cup tickets that start as low as $20 and kids 12 and under free.

Nestled in the lush Irish Hills of Southeastern Michigan, Michigan International Speedway is the Great Escape, a venerable NASCAR national park where fans can get away and enjoy the very best in racing and camaraderie. It’s the love of racing and the thrill of a great time for race fans and drivers alike. Fan Appreciation is a year-round initiative at Michigan International Speedway.

The best, guaranteed lowest prices in 2011 will go to renewal customers and new customers who make a $30 goodwill deposit. New customers can log onto www.MISpeedway.com or call 800-354-1010 to leave a deposit through Jan. 31. That deposit ensures race fans get the best pricing, including $20 Sprint Cup tickets, for 2011.

QUAKER STATE DRIVER JIMMIE JOHNSON MAKES HISTORY WITH FIFTH CONSECUTIVE TITLE

HOUSTON, TX – Jimmie Johnson and his No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports team have made history by capturing the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship title for a record fifth year in a row. With the season coming down to the final race, Johnson crossed the finish line of the 2010 Sprint Cup season with the help of Quaker State racing oil, developed with durability in mind to keep the No. 48 Chevrolet’s engine running through to the checkered flag.

“It is an honor to have Quaker State coursing through the engine of Jimmie Johnson’s No. 48 car as he reached this remarkable milestone,” said James Stone, Vice President, North American Brand Marketing, Shell Lubricants. “Quaker State congratulates Jimmie and Hendrick Motorsports on this historic success. The brand is thrilled to be a part of such a great achievement and looks forward to continuing the winning tradition next season.”

Over the last 15 years, the incredible durability of Quaker State oil has helped Hendrick Motorsports to win more NASCAR races than any other team. Quaker State engineers work diligently with Hendrick Motorsports throughout the season to analyze and adjust motor oil formulations to help achieve optimal engine performance.

The durable motor oils Quaker State provides Hendrick Motorsports have been a part of an impressive résumé of success on NASCAR’s national stage. With Quaker State racing oil under the hood, Hendrick Motorsports has captured 146 Sprint Cup wins; nine of its 10 Cup championships; one NASCAR Nationwide Series championship; and three NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championships. Add the more than 7 million on-track miles Quaker State and Hendrick Motorsports have together and it is obvious that Quaker State racing oil has the durability to help professional race teams win races and championships.

“The Hendrick Motorsports engine department works hand-in-hand with Quaker State to develop the highest possible grade of racing oil for our teams,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. “Our organization is proud to have a long-term technical partner like Quaker State, and we appreciate everything they’ve contributed to our performance over the years. We look forward to them not only being under the hood of all four teams, but on the hood of Mark Martin’s car for several races in 2011.”

The Quaker State relationship extends beyond the racetrack to Hendrick Automotive Group dealerships. Quaker State is poured in the more than 80 Hendrick Automotive Group franchises throughout the United States, providing customers with durable oil that offers a high level of protection for their vehicles.

“With the support of Quaker State and its engineers, who develop the motor oils that run under the hood of all Hendrick Motorsports cars, the No. 48 team was provided the durability needed to get us to the finish line this season,” Johnson said. “Week in and week out, Quaker State help us win through the technology they bring to the table.”

Quaker State is an iconic, long-standing American brand with a history of quality and performance that consumers recognize and trust. The complete line-up of value-led motor oils in the Quaker State family features “durability” as the main product attribute. Each of the four products is formulated to deliver outstanding friction-related wear protection to help engines deliver optimal performance under any driving condition.

Canadian title seals rally triple crown for L’Estage/Richard and Yokohama

BANCROFT, Ontario (November 20, 2010) – Ten months and thousands of kilometers after it started, the team of Antoine L’Estage and Nathalie Richard ended the 2010 rally season with a dominant victory in the Rally of the Tall Pines, sewing up the Canadian Rally Championship and earning the coveted ‘triple crown’ of North American rally competition for the Yokohama team.

Driver L’Estage and co-driver Nathalie Richard, of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, finished the grueling event with a massive 10-plus minute margin over second place Craig Henderson and Lyne Murphy of St-Constant, Quebec. It was a Quebec sweep of the podium as Bruno Carré, of Laval and co-driver Yvan Joyal of Terrebone finished third.

The victory placed L’Estage and Nathalie Richard in the rarified air of triple crown winners – one of only two teams that have won the Canadian championship, the U.S. championship and the North American Rally Cup in the same year.

The event promised to be a battle of Yokohama team mates as L’Estage/Nathalie Richard, in their Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X, led Subaru Rally Team Canada’s Pat Richard (Squamish, B.C.) and Alan Ockwell (Toronto) by a scant two points going into the final event. With the driver’s, co-driver’s and manufacturer’s titles on the line, and the reputation of Tall Pines for unpredictability, the only predictable outcome was that the Canadian champion would likely be on Yokohama tires.

But the most anticipated battle of the year faded early when L’Estage grabbed the lead from the first stage while the Richard/Ockwell Subaru Impreza WRX STi suffered damage in the morning stages that delayed the team in service. The reigning Canadian championship team of Richard/Ockwell mounted a comeback charge, winning several stages during the day, but that ended when the team went out with suspension damage late in the rally.

The two Yokohama teams also claimed two of the top spots in the overall Canadian standings when Richard/Ockwell tied with Henderson/Murphy for second in the championship chase.

The victory caps an unprecedented year for L’Estage and Nathalie Richard that included an impressive record of two wins, three second place finishes and a third that propelled them to the Rally America Championship in the U.S.

Four wins in the Canadian national series not only earned L’Estage his third Canadian title, it counted towards his third North American Rally Cup. Nathalie Richard’s record is even more impressive: six North American Rally Cup titles and six national championships from Canada or the U.S.

In addition to cris-crossing the continent chasing rally championships, the pair also earned a bronze medal at the 2010 X Games in California, underlining perhaps the most successful competition season for any Canadian motorsport competitors this year.

In addition to its sponsorship of Antoine L’Estage/Nathalie Richard and Pat Richard/Allan Ockwell, Yokohama Canada is a supporting sponsor of the Canadian Rally Championship. The Canadian championship has been televised nationally on TSN and RDS since 1993, and is made available on multiple media platforms, including TSN 2, as downloads from iTunes, on-line on Flat Over Crest (www.flatovercrest.com) and to 80 million homes in Europe on MotorsTV.

Yokohama Tire (Canada) Inc. markets and distributes a full line of tires for high performance, passenger car, light truck, and commercial truck applications, as well as off-the-road tires for mining, forestry and construction applications. It maintains distribution centres across Canada to serve more than 700 independent tire dealers and more than 2,000 retail locations.

KAWARTHA SPEEDWAY: Josh Gruntz Survives a First Year in the Trenches

In team sports like baseball, football and hockey a first year player will often have time to adjust to the pace of the game.  They’ll get their feet wet and learn as they go.  Freshman drivers in short track stock car racing also get the chance to sharpen their skills – only at a faster pace.

First year runner Joshua Gruntz – from Kawartha Speedway’s Better Carpet Thunder Car division – filled his head with knowledge during his rookie season.  The 28 year-old, originally from Bethany – who now calls Peterborough home – says it was sometimes an uphill climb, but feels he’s a better racer from the experience.

“I’ll admit that I didn’t know much when I first started”, said the plumber/pipefitter.  “I had watched the races from the grandstand, but there’s nothing compared to the rush you feel when you see that first green flag.  We started scratch (at the back of the pack) for the first few weeks.  Once I began to build my confidence, we were right there fighting for positions like everyone else”.

Gruntz steered his Ultimate Car Care/Maple Key Landscaping/Mike’s Transmission Repair/Laddie’s Signs and Graphics sponsored Monte Carlo to a 16th place finish in Kawartha’s final point standings.  He says some solid effort and support from his crew members Jamie Wagar, Fred Norton and Ben Gruntz helped him reach that level.  During the off-season, they’ll be stripping down the car, looking to make some changes to the complete package program in a search for more speed.

“Much of what we worked with on the car during 2010 is a baseline set-up we got from the former owner”, said Gruntz.  “We’re going to check the frame, cage and all the suspension components to see if there’s anything that needs to be adjusted or even replaced.  I learned some things about the way I like the car to feel and we’ll work on those ideas over the winter.  The start of the next season isn’t as far away as everyone thinks and we want to make sure we’re ready for opening night”.

Gruntz says he enjoys the friendships he’s made at the track and the helping hands his team receives from other drivers, teams and crew members.  There’s even a chance his thunder car – carrying #31 as a tribute to his high school football days – could begin the next campaign with fresh graphics package and a brand new colour scheme.

Kawartha Speedway will present their 2010 awards at the annual banquet Saturday, January 15th 2011.  Fans can submit their choices for the most sportsmanlike and most improved drivers in each of the track’s 3 weekly classes by using the on-line ballot at www.kawarthaspeedway.com.

Rally of the Tall Pines: L'Estage wins and earns third title for 2010

BANCROFT, ONTARIO, NOVEMBER 20, 2010 – Antoine L'Estage and Nathalie Richard (Ste-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC) of the Rockstar Mitsubishi team scored a decisive win in the Rally of the Tall Pines, the final round of the Canadian Rally Championship Presented by Subaru and supported by Yokohama. The win secures the team's third Canadian Rally Championship and combines with their Rally America and North American Rally Cup titles to make them only the second team ever to win all three titles in the same year.

"I'm so happy that we've done it," exclaimed L'Estage, "The car was so good all season, and my family and sponsors have all been very supportive. I am so happy that I can show my appreciation by winning every rally title there is in North America."

L'Estage and Richard have developed into one of the most dominant teams in North America, winning six of the last seven rallies they have entered, and earning the US title in their first full season south of the border. Until now, L'Estage's development as a driver has been mostly through competition in the demanding Canadian Rally Championship.

Second place in both the event and the championship went to Craig Henderson and Lyne Murphy (New Richmond, QC) of Team Swap Shop. Known for clean and consistent driving, 2010 marks the first year the team have done the entire championship. Although happy for the strong finish, Henderson was happy to have the event finished, and with his second place, secured the manufacturer's title for Subaru.

"Things were going ok this morning, but I started to get sick in the afternoon," said Henderson. "For a while I thought I might need to stop, but I was determined to get to the finish."

Bruno Carré and Yvan Joyal (Laval, QC), also of Team Swap Shop finished third after a variety of problems hampered their speed through most of the rally. The pair won the opening round of the 2010 season and led the points standings through the midpoint of the season.

"This was a really tough rally," said Carre. "We had brake problems and driveline problems, but the team was always able to repair the car and keep us going."

Pat Richard (Squamish, BC) and Alan Ockwell (Toronto) of Subaru Rally Team Canada retired late in the day after broken suspension caused the car to veer off the road.

"Congratulations to Antoine and Nathalie on their win," said Richard, who won the title most recently in 2008 and 2009. "We've done so well in the past, it's tough not to be able to continue that trend. This rally was really hard on us, and we wanted to win, but sometimes that's just not how things go."

Subaru Rally Team Canada entered a second car to help boost chances of securing the manufacturer's title. Driven by 2003 Production World Rally Champion Martin Rowe (Whistler, BC) and co-driver Keith Morison (Calgary.) The team suffered multiple mechanical problems but managed to claw back up the order and finish fourth.

Two wheel drive was dominated through most of the event by Simon Dubé  (Jonquière, QC) and Pat Levigne (Montreal) in a VW Golf. The pair suffered a huge setback when they lost their power steering and alternator belt after driving through a water splash. Though they were able to make repairs and continue, they lost the top spot to local pair Martin Walter and Ferdinand Trauttmansdorf in a Nissan 240SX.

"I'm a big proponent of two wheel drive," said Walter. "I think it's really important to show people that you can have a great time rallying without having to spend big bucks on an all wheel drive car. We kept things clean all rally and have come out on top."

The 2010 edition of the Rally of the Tall Pines marked the event's 40th anniversary, making it one of the oldest events in the championship. Conditions are known to be unpredictable, and can change quickly, demanding the best of the teams.

"With the 40th anniversary this year, we've been focused on making this the best Tall Pines ever," said Mike Koch, rally co-ordinator. "We were able to improve some of the roads over previous years to make things better for the competitors, and have continued to foster great spectating with changes to the super special and I am really happy with the results."

The 2011 season of the Canadian Rally Championship starts in Maniwaki, Quebec, with the Rallye Perce Neige in February. As Canada's only deep winter event, teams have a chance to enjoy the challenge of driving flat out on ice and snow covered roads.

Full coverage of the championship will air on RDS and TSN. Check local listings. For more information: www.carsrally.ca or www.tallpinesrally.com

ODLM: Corey Earl uses off-season to prepare for a busy 2011

PICTON, ON - Corey Earl Racing is deep into a post season tear-down and is already looking forward to an exciting 2011 race season. With 2010 in the books as an incredibly successful Dirt Late Model debut, Corey Earl Racing is looking at expanding their 2011 schedule to include the full ODLM tour as well as select other high-profile, high horsepower events.

“After an amazing opening season in our crate late model, having a feature win, a series win and multiple top 5 finishes, we wanted to make sure we could run a full crate schedule and ODLM schedule without hurting our chances at either.” stated driver Corey Earl. “We want to make a serious run for the ODLM rookie of the year title in 2011 so we have begun to put together the resources we need to make that happen.”

Starting out with the purchase of a 650 horsepower “open” motor, the team will be running a full 2 car operation in 2011. Long-time engine builder Larry was quick to prepare a former 358 DIRT Modified motor for it's new life under the hood with a couple key modifications to make it more suited to dirt late model racing. Next up is the purchase of a second car and the team has been keeping their eyes peeled for the right piece of hardware. “We learned so much this year about how these cars like to be driven and how different chassis' suit different drivers” says Corey “I now know that with my driving style we are looking for a “blue” front Rocket chassis. The “black” front car that we ran this year will get the open motor and the “blue” car, which favors a smoother, more momentum based style, will be getting a brand new 604 crate motor.”

With big plans for 2011 the team has been hard at working making sure that their equipment is in top-notch condition. The #11 Rocket Chassis has already been stripped to its bare frame to begin a complete rebuild from the ground up. “We want to make sure our equipment isn't holding us back.” crew chief Hotch Earl said. “By re-building each and every piece of this years car and going over our new car with a fine tooth comb, we can be sure that both machines are ready to perform at their peak.”

Be sure to follow along at www.coreyearl.com for all team updates and news.

Super DIRTcar Series Star Sheppard Sends Off 2010 Season In Style!

Matt Sheppard Celebrates Super Season With 1st Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block Title
‘Super Matt’ banks $50,000 after capturing overall 2010 Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels crown

Verona, NY – November 20, 2010 – After 10 straight months of turning wrenches in the garage and turning heads at the track, it was finally time for Matt Sheppard to celebrate the biggest accomplishment of his career.

Second-generation chauffeur from Waterloo, N.Y. Sheppard capped off a spectacular season on Saturday night, November 20 as nearly 500 drivers, owners, crew members, officials, media members and corporate VIPs filled the Turning Stone Resort & Casino Events Center in Verona, New York to joined in during the 35th Annual DIRTcar Northeast “Night of Champions” Awards Banquet.

“(Mr. DIRT) is really surreal,” began Sheppard, 28, after earning his first overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Championship in the Big-Block Modified ranks. Along with collecting the lucrative first-place prize of $50,000, ‘Super Matt’ carried away the commemorative 65-pound hand-crafted “Tribute Trophy” that was also awarded to World of Outlaws champions Jason Meyers (Sprint) and Josh Richards (Late Model) just two weeks earlier in their own season-ending ceremonies. “I came to my first banquet 11 years ago, in 1999 when I was rookie of the year in the Sportsman division. Never, ever dreamed I’d be up here where I am now.”

“Just the history behind it. To be listed in the same category as guys like Alan (Johnson) and Danny (Johnson), Jack Johnson, Will Cagle, Brett Hearn and Billy Decker … there’s no way to put that into words. Probably still hasn’t sunk in, probably take a while before it will,” remarked Sheppard, who went on to take Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Modified honors in 2000 then garner rookie of the year acclaim in the 358-Modified (2001) and Big-Block (2003) divisions before reaching the top of the DIRTcar Modified world to begin a new decade.

Sheppard’s car owner Jeff Brownell knew exactly what to say after he was summoned to center stage by DIRTcar Racing NE Director of Competition & Track Sanctioning Joe Skotnicki to receive the traditional Mr. DIRTcar Car Owner trophy.

“This is mostly Matt’s deal, he runs the show,” said Brownell, who received the Northeast Modified Hall of Fame 'Gene DeWitt Outstanding Car Owner' Award during the annual award ceremonies held on the Cayuga County Fairgrounds in May. “We have a lot of guys that help us out but he’s the crew chief, the driver, and even drives the truck. We found a deal that works and that’s what we use. It’s so hard to win Mr. DIRT so it’s nice to have a new young face instead of all those old guys like me.”

World Racing Group Chief Executive Officer Brian Carter headed the presentation to Sheppard and his car owner JB Motorsports, with WRG President and Chief of Operations Tom Deery also addressing the audience that packed the show room floor the final weekend before Thanksgiving. Further acknowledgements went out to the entire DIRTcar NE staff and WRG officials that helped coordinate the annual production at the internationally acclaimed Turning Stone entertainment complex.

Familiar ‘voice’ of the Super DIRTcar Series Shane Andrews emceed the program that featured interviews with each major award winner throughout the night. Always a highlight of this special occasion, customary inclusion of the Mr. DIRTcar winning cars near center stage in the dining room provided a fitting backdrop that offered numerous photo opportunities both before and after the festive stage production. The sparkling JB Motorsports no. 9s Xtreme Lubricants-Integra Shocks-Bert Transmission/Bicknell machine stole the spotlight with Sheppard posing alongside family and friends in the customary after-hours photo shoot.

“There’s a lot of people to thank, starting out with Jeff and Jeff Jr., the whole Brownell family, they give me what I need to go out there and run fast,” added Sheppard, who scored a series-high six wins to end the season with a DIRTcar NE circuit Big-Block best total of 19 feature victories. He extended his career count to 18 (10th all-time), figuring in 15 top-5 finishes in the 22-race championship, also concluding his 13th season of open-wheel competition by improving his overall win total to 73 with another 14 victories registered in 358-Modified racing.

“Then there’s Chuck Cici who supplies the power. Our motors speak for themselves, they run strong and consistent. Randy Williamson, Pete Bicknell and Bob Slack from Bicknell Racing Products provide great race cars and Scott Keyser from Integra Shocks. And of course all my crew that helps out, it’s really a package deal. Without every one of those pieces it just doesn’t work,” Sheppard said.

Recognition of the 2010 DIRTcar Northeast Regional Racing Series top point-getters and touring division track champions kicked off the evening agenda prior to dinner being served at 7:45pm.

Continuing in ‘10 with DIRTcar Northeast sanctioned tracks divided into regions for the Big-Block Modified, 358-Modified and Sportsman classes, Regional Racing Series point funds rewarded the leading drivers in each class with total payouts approaching $30,000 for all nine open-wheel divisions. Recently crowned Regional champions earning $1,200 in the Big-Blocks were Sheppard (central), Brett Hearn/Bobby Varin (east-tie) and Jeremiah Shingledecker (west), Regional 358-Modified point winners collecting $1,000 were Stephane LaFrance/Tim O’Brien (north-tie) and Pete Bicknell (west), while top point-getters in the Sportsman Regions receiving $500 were Chris Raabe (north), Steve Gray (central), Greg Panunte (west) and Bodie Bellinger (east).

Top point-getters in the Big-Block Modified, 358-Modified, Sportsman and Pro Stock classes were recognized during this popular seasonal celebration and at the end in the neighborhood of  $300,000 in cash, fuel certificates and contingency awards were spread over nearly 200 paying positions in DIRTcar NE's four major touring divisions.

Shannon Rush presented awards on behalf of Hoosier Tire while Skotnicki represented VP Racing Fuels throughout the festive evening. Larry Bishop was in attendance from Dig Safely New York, a long-standing supporter of DIRTcar Racing and sponsor of the Modified Non-Qualifiers race at Super DIRT Week as well as Saturday’s Promoters Luncheon. Also recognized as special guests of DIRTcar Racing in this season-ending event were representatives from Camping World, Pullen’s Truck Center and Summit Auto Group.

Along with the $50,000 Mr. DIRTcar cash jackpot collected by 2010 Cayuga County Fair Speedway points champion Sheppard, World Racing Group CEO Carter also fitted him with a commemorative ring to further distinguish his Mr. DIRTcar title. Sheppard also received a unique $1,000 "Gater Leads The Way" prize package from Gater Racing Photo News rep Sue Patrick after ‘Super Matt’ led the most laps (586 in 12 events) during the Super DIRTcar Series.

For the fourth time in his career, veteran open-wheel driver Danny Johnson captured the overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Championship. Another second-generation pilot, Rochester, New Yorker Johnson collected a $10,000 top prize for his most recent success.

“These (Mr. DIRTcar titles) don’t get any easier,” pointed out Johnson, now 50, who was joined at the podium by 358-Modified Series Director John Nelson and Mike Payne, owner of the no. 27J Honeoye Auto Parts-Currier Plastics-Waste Management-Rochester Americans/Bicknell ride powered by Mike Mastin-prepared engines. Johnson settled for fifth-place in the Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block points chase also teamed with Payne. “I appreciate Mike coming up here with me, it’s really his championship and I get to share it with him.”

“This year was a great opportunity, I appreciate racing with all my peers. We had a lot of fun and I look forward to more of it down the road. Every time out presented a new venture and it was a lot of hard work in the shop in between. We’re just lucky to get through it all. Very fortunate to come out with the championship but Mike and the team really deserve it,” added Johnson, who registered eight top-10 feature finishes in his 10 series starts, also posting a series-high half-dozen front-5s. Including his two tour triumphs at Edelweiss and Rolling Wheels. D.J. ranks second all-time with 55 and also stands third among DIRTcar Northeast’s all-time winners with 150 (6 in 2010) checkered flags coming in 358-Modified action.

Teenager ‘Tiger’ Tim Sears Jr. matched Sheppard’s mark of six series wins ---although needing just 12 races--- to claim his first Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Championship. Buckled in behind the wheel of the family-owned no. 83x Total Site Development/Bicknell entry, the high school senior from Clay, N.Y. closed out the campaign with 16 feature wins scored in both the U.S. and Canada.

“Dad (Tim Sr.) and my uncle Tom (Sears Jr.) taught me everything I know, can’t ever thank them enough for giving me this chance,” said Sears, 18, who held off overall points runner-up Ryan Susice to end Chris Raabe’s (3rd) Sportsman stronghold at two straight titles and collect the $4,500 first-place prize. “I was fortunate to be able to take advantage of such a great opportunity.”

“Can’t really describe how happy I am with this season, it was just so awesome. Every time I went to a new track I parked next to Justin Wright (4th pts) and every time we won, so I have to thank him, too. Also have to thank everybody that helped me out on this series, its awesome racing with these guys. They’re all good, clean racers and I raced side-by-side all year and don’t think we ever touched.”

“Just love going out on the road, getting to the track early and talking with all the other drivers. That’s the best part of this whole deal, all the comradery. Its been so much fun traveling and meeting so many different drivers, and we’ll do the same thing next year unless some kind of big sponsorship comes along. This is all we do, it’s a family sport for us,” added Sears, who registered 10 tour top-10 finishes to open up a comfortable 104-point margin ahead of runner-up for a 2nd straight year Susice. Setting fast time in qualifying on one occasion, Sears finished second on the final track points chart at Fulton Speedway (5 wins) and won four more specials at Can-Am to highlight ’10.

Personable Pro Stock pilot Louie Jackson put an end to another streak while becoming the third first-time overall Hoosier-VP Mr. DIRTcar Champion in 2010. Launching the new decade of speed on the DIRTcar Northeast circuit, Jackson edged runner-up Corey Wheeler and Joey Ladouceur in the closest full-fender battled ever waged in 16 years crowning a tour titlist. Pete Stefanski had locked up the title from 2006-09.

“In the last event I just tried to be patient … actually was too patient and it almost cost me everything,” noted Jackson, 41, who nipped Wheeler by a single marker with just two more points separating third-place finisher Ladouceur in the final rankings.to earn a $1,500 post-season award. Despite going winless on the Mr. DIRTcar champ trail, the Akwesasne, N.Y. driver ended the season with a total of six feature wins as he remained ranked among the Top-10 all-time with four Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Series wins, elevating his career total to 43 checkered flags on the DIRTcar Northeast circuit. “Should’ve just raced my ass off.”

“This was just a season that we started out good and had some good finishes at the beginning. We also got some bad luck and had some poor finishes, but we were still able to hang on in points. Near the end at Brockville I said ‘I’m getting too relaxed here’ and its time to step it up. That almost turned out to be too late,” noted Jackson, the first Pro Stocker to crack the 100 mph barrier on the Syracuse Mile en route to his 2006 Super DIRT Week triumph, who steered the potent Adams Marina no. 18 Keegan Smoke Shop/Chevrolet Monte Carlo Black Widow entry this season.

Four rookie drivers were honored at the banquet and presented special achievement awards for their first-year success. Backed by Dennis Botindari from MSS, an additional $10,000 was shared by Motorsports Safety Systems (MSS) and G-FORCE safety gear DIRTcar NE rookies Lance Willix II (Big-Block), Luke Whitteker (358-Mod), Jamie Platt & Brent Kelsey (co-Sportsman Modified) and Chip Smith Jr. (Pro Stock) who were named 2010 DIRTcar Northeast Rookies of the Year.

With the curtain officially dropping on DIRTcar’s 35th season of operation Saturday, that means the start of 2011 is now only 88 days away as Volusia Speedway Park leads off down south with the 40th Annual Florida DIRTcar Nationals by University of Northwestern Ohio (Feb. 8-19) opening for Big-Block Modifieds on February 16. Check out www.superdirtcarseries.com often as further information for Volusia's popular Winter tour events will be posted right up to race time.

Skidmarks: Ryan Phelps finished 8th in the final 2010 overall Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block point standings and with a combination of Super DIRTcar Series setbacks the second-generation chauffeur from Fulton, N.Y. accepted the Area Auto Racing News ‘Hard Luck’ award. Helen Bruce made the presentation, with AARN chief editor Lenny Sammons in attendance posing for pictures…. In an award introduced last year by Jeff Brownell, Larry Wight was selected as the ‘Xtreme Slick Move of the Year’ award recipient and collected a $500 prize for his efforts. Wight was a 3-time ‘Xtreme Move of the Race’ winner during the Super DIRTcar Series, on May 30 at Cayuga County finishing 12th after qualifying a 358-Modified; on Sept. 5 at Cayuga Co. held off veteran Alan Johnson for 93 laps to become the youngest series winner ever; and on Sept. 18 at Mohawk rallied from an early pit stop to finish 5th running outside the whole way.

Jimmie Johnson Wins Fifth Consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Title

Homestead, Fla. – Team Chevy driver Jimmie Johnson is the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion.

Johnson, driver of the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet, overcame a 15-point deficit in the season’s final race to win his fifth consecutive driver’s title. No other series driver has ever won more than three in a row.

“What Jimmie Johnson has accomplished is, quite simply, amazing,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. Vice President of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “An unprecedented fifth consecutive championship is a testament to the single-minded focus of Jimmie, Chad Knaus and everyone associated with Hendrick Motorsports, as well as the leadership of Rick Hendrick. For years to come, Jimmie Johnson and the 48 Team will be at the center of conversations whenever sports dynasties are debated.”

To win the championship, Johnson overcame the second-largest points deficit entering the final race since NASCAR went to its current points setup in 1975. Johnson was 15 points off the pace heading into Sunday’s season-ending Ford 400 and responded with a solid second-place finish, his series-leading 17th top-five finish of 2010. Johnson, who also scored six victories this year, has never finished outside of the top five in the standings in each of his nine full-time seasons.

JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE'S CHEVROLET, FINISHED 2ND TODAY AND IS THE 2010 NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES CHAMPION, HIS UNPRECEDENTED FIFTH CONSECUTIVE CROWN:  FROM IN CAR POST RACE AUDIO: "Unbelievable! Unbelievable! WOOHOO! You guys are the best. I can't believe that we did this. Unbelievable!"

YOUR THOUGHTS ON WINNING A FIFTH CONSECUTIVE TITLE: "I'm so proud to be in this position and so thankful to have my great race team and everybody at Hendrick Motorsports giving me great race cars. I think this year we showed what this team is made. At times we didn't have the most speed, but we proved it here at the end of the Chase and especially here today. I am just besides myself. Four was amazing. Now I have to figure out what the hell to say about winning five of these things because everybody is going to want to know what it means. I don't know! It is pretty damn awesome I can tell you that."

YOU WERE BEHIND FOR A LITTLE BIT IN THE RACE, BUT YOUR COMPETITORS WENT THROUGH PROBLEMS TOO AND IT REALLY WAS ANYBODY’S RACE.  TELL ME WHAT YOU GUYS TALKED ABOUT ON THE RADIO DURING THE RACE AND WHAT YOUR EMOTIONS WERE INSIDE THE CAR:

“We really didn’t talk about much on the radio, but I could see in the mirror where the guys were—where Kevin was and where the 11 was.  When he got in front of me and was two spots in front of me, I thought, ‘Man, it’s going to be tough now.’  I expected them to be there, but we had restart or two and we went forward and they went backward and off it went.  Chad made some great adjustments on the car and we were up there chasing Carl around and put in a great finish there in second.”

THE POINT WHERE YOU CAME OFF PIT ROAD AND YOU WERE RIDING AROUND IN SECOND, DID YOU DECIDE THAT YOU WERE OK THERE AND YOU WERE JUST GOING TO RIDE AROUND, OR WERE YOU AFTER IT ALL THE WAY TO THE FINISH?

“I was after it pretty hard.  Chad told me with about 10 to go to be smart and save our tires in case there was a green-white-checkered, and I definitely backed off a little bit at the end.  I don’t think I had anything for the 99.  This Lowe’s Chevrolet was awesome when it was up front and had clean air and we knew if we got up there that we would stay there and it really worked out that way in the end.  Just an amazing day for the team as I mentioned earlier.  I have to thank all my fans, all the employees at Lowe’s, and the fans of our sport—the people that may not be fans of the 48, but I think you saw something special today.  We’ve got an awesome sport and I’m proud to represent it as our champion again.”

THE WAY IT STARTED AT NEW HAMPSHIRE, THE THINGS THAT HAPPENED AT TEXAS—AT ANY POINT WAS THERE A DOUBT THAT YOU COULD BE HERE?
“Yes, there was at times.  I’m human.  I don’t think that we’re invincible.  I knew coming into this that at some point somebody is going to beat us and the 11 did an awesome job all Chase long, and the 29 for that matter.  So I knew there was a good chance.  I knew that if I left this season and I gave 100% and so did my team, that we could sleep at night.  And I know we may not sleep tonight but we’re going to sleep sometime soon!  We made it through and gave 100% every race and showed what teamwork was all about with this Hendrick Motorsports car.”

TAKE US THROUGH YOUR DAY TODAY: "We really didn't talk about much on the radio but I could see in the mirror where the guys were, where Kevin was and where the 11 (Denny Hamlin) was and when he got in front of me and was up there, two spots in front of me, I thought, man it is going to be tough now. And, I expected them to be there. We had a restart or two and we went forward and they went backwards and off it went. Chad made some great adjustments on the car and we were up there chasing Carl (Edwards, race winner) around and had a great finish in second."

CHAD KNAUS, CREW CHIEF, NO. 48 LOWE'S CHEVROLET, FINISHED 2ND IN THE RACE, CAPTURES 2010 NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP: CONGRATULATIONS, WHAT A DRIVE TODAY: "It was awesome. We definitely knew what we had to do. We did it. It was great. We weren't able to get the trophy. We would have liked to have won, but to be doing donuts here this afternoon is just a fantastic testament to Hendrick Motorsports, everybody that works at the 248 shop. It took a lot of team work to get this done. We had to mix up some personnel to make it happen. I couldn't be prouder and happier for this team. Jimmie will definitely get his just rewards now."

AFTER THE BIG MOVE AT TEXAS—THE PIT CREW STRUGGLED TODAY, BUT THEY GOT YOU HERE:

“It’s a lot of pressure man; it is.  Those guys did a heck of a job and I couldn’t be prouder of everybody at Hendrick Motorsports.  This is definitely a team effort to win the championship this year.  It took all of us; it took everybody at HMS and everybody in the 24/48 shop.  I can’t thank everybody enough for all of the extra effort and hard work that they put into it.  Steve Letarte is a great teammate, and Alan Gustafson and Lance McGrew—they put us ahead of everybody this week to make sure that we brought the best piece here that we possibly could.  It was a really good racecar.  I couldn’t say enough about what Jimmie did.  I think finally, finally after being able to pull this off that he’ll get the rewards and respect that he needs.”

YOU WERE MORE EMOTIONAL AFTER THIS THAN I’VE SEEN YOU THE LAST FOUR YEARS; WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?
“It was awesome.  I’m a competitor.  I love to compete and knowing what we had to do, and how we had to come down here and beat them; and we beat them

RICK HENDRICK, OWNER, HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS AND CHAMPIONSHIP WINNING THE NO. 48 LOWE'S CHEVROLET: 10 NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES CHAMPIONSHIPS, IT TIES YOU WITH PETTY ENTERPRISES: "I never thought I would win one of these deals. I thank Lowe's and Chevrolet and everybody that has helped us. These guys have worked hard. This was a hard fought deal. I thought we lost it three times in this race. It is unbelievable. We appreciate all the fans. I don't know if anybody will ever win five of these things in a row again, they'll be going for six next year, so here we go."

HOW NERVE WRACKING WAS IT FOR YOU TODAY? "It was really, really tough the last 20 laps or so because you really didn't know where anybody was, you know. When Denny pitted, then Kevin had a problem, you knew we could fix ourselves if we could win the thing, but it didn't look like we could do that. Man, it has been a crazy day."

IT’S LIKE YOU’VE GONE TO ANOTHER LEVEL—I’D SAY WITH FIVE THAT’S PRETTY ACCURATE.  WHAT WORDS WOULD YOU USE TO DESCRIBE THIS ONE AND TO PUT IT IN PERSPECTIVE?

“I mean I had no idea. This race has been so up and down all day long.  Denny had a problem, then Denny came back; we had a problem and then Kevin had a problem—it was like who is going to screw up the most?  I’m really proud of these guys.  It’s really hard to win one of these deals, and for Jimmie and that team to do it five times in a row it’s just unbelievable.  It gives us 10 of these things—I don’t know what to say.  This has been one of the hardest fought championships I can remember.  We lost one in 2004 [to Kurt Busch] by eight points, and I feel for Denny [Hamlin] and Kevin [Harvick] because they ran well all year long.  Somebody has got to win it and I’m glad it was us.”

DEREK WHITE MAKES GREAT STRIDES AT HOMESTEAD

Homestead, FL. (November 20, 2010) In his only NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race this season at the final event on the schedule in Homestead, Florida Derek White the 2010 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series rookie of the year wanted to learn as much as he could and bring the #6 Race101/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet Truck to the finish. After weeks of hard work and preparation White along with his team accomplished both of their goals.

It wasn’t important to White that he would begin the race in the #6 Race101/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet from the back row. With some of the best racers in the world ahead of him as soon as the green flag waved White took the opportunity to see where he could improve on each lap. “On every corner I was trying to watch some of the faster Trucks and use their line” said White. “At the same time I made sure that I wasn’t holding anybody up” he added.

White’s concern for the other drivers and keeping the #6 Race101/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet out of the way also got the attention of NASCAR. “The NASCAR officials told us to pick up the pace a bit” explained White afterwards. “I was letting off a bit too much is all it was, just part of the learning process.

The first caution period of the race came on lap 30 and the #6 Race101/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet team made a pit stop for fuel and fresh tires. After the race returned to green flag conditions, White ran his quickest lap of the race to that point on lap 37. “The new tires helped, but also slowing down for the yellow allowed me just to refocus and pick up the speed a little more” he stated.

The #6 Race101/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet team called White to pit road for another stop during the third caution period of the race. Fresh tires, fuel and bit of tape added to the front nose all helped Derek in the late stages of the race. On lap 91 White clocked his best lap time of the evening with a 34.569 second trip around the 1 ½ mile oval.

Through much of the race White was pushing the #6 Race101/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet to catch the #57 Truck which was running in the position ahead of him on the track. Though he closed the gap several times White just couldn’t seem to make the pass to get back on the same lap. “I was a little quicker on the straightaway but he seemed to carry a bit more speed through the corners” stated White. “And each time I got close to him the yellow would come out and I didn’t get the chance to try and make a pass” he added.

When the checkered flag fell White crossed the line in the #6 Race101/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet in 33rd position. Though he certainly would have liked to finish higher he was extremely pleased and proud of what the team had accomplished. “Our goal was to finish the race and we did that” said White. “These guys all worked so hard to get ready for this race and we brought the truck home without a mark on it. I learned so much racing against these drivers, our lap times improved by over four seconds from the first session which is fantastic. I had a great time and can’t thank everybody enough for all their hard work. We’ll enjoy this for a couple days and then we’re going to start looking at what we can do in 2011” said the happy driver.

Look for Derek White to participate in the 2011 season opening event of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Daytona International Speedway next February and also look for him to return to the NASCAR Canadian Tire series next season.
