One of the biggest Crate Late Model events in this area is set for Saturday, September 17th at the Brighton Speedway. The Great Crate Race will see cars from all over eastern Ontario and New York State, and beyond battle it out for $5000 to win, and an unprecedented $20000 purse, plus lap money and contingency awards. Brighton Speedway and organizers of the Great Crate Race have announced that five events throughout the season will be set aside as qualifiers for this first annual McDougall’s Insurance & Financial 65 lap event, including one race at Brighton during the Canada Day long weekend. The first qualifier will take place at the Humberstone Speedway in Port Colbourne, Ontario on Sunday, May 22nd. The race will be a part of the FASTRACK Late Model Series, and the winner will get a provisional starting spot for the Great Crate Race, if necessary. The next qualifier will take place at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park in LaFargeville, New York as part of the Go Nuclear Late Model Series on June 10th, and then June 24th at Brewerton Speedway for another Go Nuclear Late Model Challenge series race. Brighton Speedway will host their own qualifying race on July 2nd, as part of the Canada Weekend Championships. The race winner will lock themselves into the 1st annual Great Crate Race. The final qualifying race will take place on Saturday, August 27th at Fulton Speedway, which will also be the finale for the Go Nuclear Late Model Challenge Series. McDougall’s Insurance & Financial is title sponsor of this event, with additional backing from Excel Tower Service, Brighton Speedway, Hotch’s Auto Parts, Dibbitt’s Excavating Ltd. and American Traditions Motorsports. Gillee’s NAPA, Tenacious Racing, and Finish Line Web Design have also been added as contingency sponsors with Gillee’s supplying cases of Brad Penn environmental friendly oil, Tenacious Racing is supplying a set of Bilstein racing shocks, and Finish Line Web Design is sponsoring the half way leader bonus of $100.
