May 29, 2011, GRIMSBY, ON – Jeff Lapcevich opened the 2011 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series at Mosport Speedway with an eighth place finish Saturday night. The Grimsby, Ontario, racer got spun late in the race, but he still managed to come back for an eighth place finish in his Tim Hortons-sponsored Dodge Challenger.
“I’m excited about the way our season started,” said Lapcevich. “The car was as comfortable as I’ve ever had it at Mosport. We got behind during the long stretch of green flag racing, but while other drivers were slowing down we seemed to get faster.”
Lapcevich debuted his family-owned Fastline Motorsports Dodge program along with new crew chief Tim Ellas this weekend.
“Tim has done a great job in the short time he’s been with us,” said Lapcevich. “He’s a proven winner, and our communication this weekend was great. If things had gone a little differently we had a top five car.”
Lapcevich broke into the top-10 early in the Dickies 200, but when the event ran more than 100 laps without a caution he found himself a lap down to eventual race winner Scott Steckly. Things got worse for the Grimsby veteran when he got spun out in turn three. No caution flag was thrown for the spin, and Lapcevich was able to resume without losing another lap.
A few late restarts allowed Lapcevich the opportunity to advance a few spots, and in the end he brought the car home eighth unscathed.
“The big positive we can take from the race is the car is pretty much ready for Delaware Speedway in a couple of weeks,” said Lapcevich. “We’ll run the road course car next weekend in Quebec, and it’s reassuring that we only have to do routine maintenance to be ready for Delaware.”
