Thorold, Ontario (May 19) – Race fans and race teams alike surely have enjoyed the fact that their favourite Southern Ontario and Western New York DIRTcar Race Tracks have opened for the new season or can’t wait until they do!
One must see event on everyone’s calendar should be Merrittville Speedway’s Zavitz Financial Strategies and ZFS Employee Benefit Solutions Monday May 23rd event that once again launches the season long 358 Modified Super DIRTcar series when the Thorold showplace’s first Holiday Doubleheader concludes.
“We’re expecting quite a field to challenge our Bobcat of Hamilton 358 Modifieds,” relates Merrittville GM Erica Bicknell-Jones, “… any of our Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series Drivers have a shot at Victory Lane … but like last season – you never know who will show!”
Sussex New Jersey’s Brett Hearn made a rare May visit last year and took victory in the 358 Modified Super DIRTcar Series Event – his first since the 1995 edition. Merrittville Speedway’s Hoosier Stocks will continue their quest against the Brighton Speedway Pro Stocks in their second Home Track Event of the season in the Duel on the Dirt Big 6 with a 25 lap Feature.
May 23rd’s Show also opens another series – the 2011 Grantham Lions Ironman Enduro Qualifiers accelerated by Niagara College. Three times during the season, Enduro enthusiasts race leading up to the September 11th Smash-o-rama 100 lap Main Event.
“Our Enduros attract all kinds,” relates (GM) Erica Bicknell, “ drivers with no experience … some that have run this type of event before and even some of our regular Saturday Night Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series competitors … but in the end it’s more survival than experience that counts.”
Gates will open Monday May 23rd at the special time of 4:00 with showtime at 6:30 PM.
