Canadian Rally Championship : Join the celebration at the Rallye Baie des Chaleurs

Toronto, June 27, 2011 – The third round of the Canadian Rally Championship will be run out of New-Richmond this weekend with the 34th running of the Rallye Baie des Chaleurs taking place Friday and Saturday. 8 teams will compose the Mitsubishi Brigade among the 40-car starting grid with leaders Antoine L’Estage from St-Jean-sur-Richelieu and codriver Nathalie Richard from Halifax looking for a third consecutive victory this season in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. The North American Triple Crown champions are also leading the North American series and are second in the Rally America standings. A third win for them this year would mean an historical first for Mitsubishi in the Gaspe Peninsula.

Synchro Racing team returns to action with their three cars starting from 8th, 9th and 12th positions. Previous winner of the Mitsubishi Cup, Simon Losier will steer his EVO VIII codriven by Brian Maxwell. Martin and Patrick Losier will team up again in a fast EVO V while Maxime Losier and regular partner Philippe Poirier will go to work in their EVO VIII cockpit.

The Clear Water Design teams will also take to the tough logging roads. From 16th place, Ontarians Ian Crerar and Doug Draper in their EVO VI will look for another Top 10 finish while the lady crew of Michelle Laframboise and Élise Racette in their EVO IV are back in action (25th).

Finally, Jeffrey Dowell and Yavor Klostranec will try to stretch their lead in the Production Sport class with a stock Lancer DE while New-Yorkers Peter Guagenti and James Drake should enjoy their first start at the famed Baie event.

Event profile : Rallye Baie des Chaleurs

Third event of the season, Baie des Chaleurs, is a highly attended event on the calendar. Crews will take to the roads at low speed Thursday for a reconnaissance tour. Technical scrutineering will take place Friday afternoon before the official start at 6h30 PM. Cars will return for an all-night Parc Exposé around 11 PM. Start of the Saturday leg is scheduled at 9h AM and the event will end around 5h PM just before the podium ceremony is held. 13 speed sections make for 200 out of the 400 kilometers of the event total distance.
