Sun Peaks, British Columbia racer Jason White scored his best ever career series finish in round number four of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series at Mosport International Raceway near Bowmanville, Ontario this past weekend. White used skill and strategy to pick up a sixth place result, his third consecutive top-ten finish in the #21 A & W Dodge.
Weather hampered the first day of on track activity for the #21 A & W Dodge team as persistent showers dampened the area. “When we did get a few laps out on the track in the afternoon session the car felt really good” said White “and I was really looking forward to qualifying” he added.
Unfortunately qualifying was cancelled and according to the rule book the #21 A & W Dodge would line up tenth for the 200km event on Sunday afternoon. “I wanted to qualify to see how well some of the changes we made to the car had worked” explained White “but having a tenth spot for the start was good for us” he stated.
When the green flag waved Sunday afternoon for the main event White settled into a comfortable race pace and maintained his position near the top-ten. “I found out in the first segment of the race everything we did to the car was working for us” said the driver. “I couldn’t wait to see how our strategy played out”.
White wouldn’t have to wait long. When many of the other front runners made early pit stops, White stayed on track in the #21 A & W Dodge and as the stops cycled through White would find himself leading the race for the restart. “It felt so good to be out front of this field” he said enthusiastically. “I just had to stay focused on our plan for the day.
White would surrender the lead but continued to race confidently knowing the #21 A & W Dodge was a strong contender. As the race continued he remained solidly inside the top-ten as they approached their scheduled pit stop. “When the caution came out we got to stop just after lap 30 which was our plan” explained the driver. “We had fuel and fresh tires and the car was awesome” he added.
With the balance of the afternoon in his hands White set out to continue his strong effort in the #21 A & W Dodge. As several other racers encountered issues White was there to capitalize. “Some of the guys were running on older tires and our car was handling beautifully” he stated. “I kept my cool and looked for opportunities to move up”.
As the laps ticked away toward the finish White kept urging the #21 A & W Dodge forward and claimed a sixth place finish. It was White’s best ever finish in the series, his third consecutive top-ten and he was also able to lead the race for nine laps. “I am so privileged to drive these race cars” said a thankful White after the race. “Derek & Dave Lynch do such a great job, I’ve got to thank the Kawartha Group and the help we get from DJK Racing is fantastic. This team is really taking big steps this year” he added.
With the sixth place finish at Mosport Jason White moves into sixth place in the overall NASCAR Canadian Tire Series point standings.
