Mosport Park (Ontario), June 27th 2011.- The Media Racing Team spent this past weekend at Ontario’s Mosport circuit for two new Canadian Touring Car Championship races, enabling Luc Lesage and Jocelyn Fecteau to continue the development of their Touring Class Scion tC’s and to earn their best result so far this season.
Right from the practice sessions, Luc Lesage, from Trois-Rivières, kept his #22 Scion tC among the Touring Class leaders while his Mont-St-Grégoire teammate Jocelyn Fecteau, got his bearings on a track he hasn’t competed at since 2009.
During qualifications, the Media Racing Team drivers progressed even more on the wet track, seeing Luc Lesage take the third place in Touring and seventh overall amidst a pack of Super Touring cars! The team’s contentment was reinforced by a ninth place in Touring and fifteenth overall for Jocelyn Fecteau, who was still suffering from a knee injury incurred this past winter.
As always at Mosport, Saturday afternoon’s race, the first of two that weekend, was very hotly contested and did not go without incident. « I had an excellent start and I was fighting at the front for several laps but a small bit of contact forced me to lose some ground » confides Luc Lesage who ended up crossing the finish line in fourth spot (eleventh overall out of the 26 drivers entered). « The Scion tC has a lot of potential but we need to find better settings because we are using our front tires a bit too much, which is causing under-steering in the second half of the race » he adds.
As for Jocelyn Fecteau, he moved up one spot during the race, finishing eighth in Touring class: « The start of the race was tough because several Super Touring cars were able to benefit from a newly dried surface to attempt to quickly overtake us. There was a lot of congestion in the pack. After that, I had a few good laps but my injured knee definitely bothered me towards the end of the race. I also have to admit that I’m still learning the Scion tC since I was not able to have any seat time testing it prior to the start of the season » he mentions. Given the situation, coming away with a "Top 8" is far from disappointing for Jocelyn Fecteau.
On Sunday, Lesage started in fourth place and Fecteau in eighth. « We took a chance by changing the dampers before the start to diminish the under-steering issues. The Scion tC worked great during the first five laps but unfortunately I hit the tire-wall on the exit of turn 2 during the sixth lap. I was fine but the car couldn’t continue. It’s disappointing but on another hand, I believe that we proved this past weekend that the car is capable to fight for the win. The development is ongoing but this car has an excellent potential » explains Luc Lesage.
Jocelyn Fecteau once again earned eighth place points on Sunday. « During the first five laps I had a good battle with Marc-André Bergeron, the hockey player who was contesting his first race, but his day ended early. Knowing that Luc also didn’t finish, I then set my focus on making sure one of the Scion tC’s crossed the finish line. My knee caused me a lot of problems and there was only so far that I could push it » he precised.
In the Canadian Touring Championship, the Media Racing Team is entering Luc Lesage, Jocelyn Fecteau, and their two Scion tC’s, the Japanese manufacturer’s sports model, recently released in the Canadian market. After this past weekend at Mosport, the team is preparing for the next round in the championship, the Toronto Indy Grand Prix, which will take place on the traditional track of city streets on July 8th and 9th. « It’s a course that I like and where I’ve already been on the podium in 2009. I’m really looking forward to contesting this race » concludes Jocelyn Fecteau.
