NCATS: Don Thomson captures his first NASCAR win for EHR on Saturday at Delaware

LONDON, ON - Delaware, Ontario- Don Thomson Jr. in his #8 Farmers Feed Families Dodge held off challenges in the closing laps of the Keystone Light 200 to bring home the first win for the newly added team to the E.H.R. stable, Saturday night at Delaware Speedway.

Thomson qualified 9th in the 20 car field and focused on saving his equipment in the first part of the race to have something left at the end of the race to charge for the podium.

The #8 Farmers Feed Families Dodge came in to the attention of his over the wall crew on lap 104 for tires, in the 6th spot.  The Farmers Feed Families crew did a great job and got the car in and out of the pits fast!

Thomson saved his equipment and when a caution came out on lap 155, the drivers in front of him pitted and Thomson played some great strategy and stayed out on the track, taking over the lead.

As the green flag flew for the last time on lap 193 after a late race accident, Thomson held his line and kept the challenges from 2010 NCTS Champion Scott Steckly at bay recording the Team’s first win of the 2011 season.

“We had a great run tonight. As the race got closer to the end I knew if I saved my stuff I would have a chance at the win.  Most of the drivers that we race with each week like Scott (Steckly) are class acts and I am so happy to win this for Ed (Hakonson) and the Farmers Feed Families team.”  Said Thomson in victory lane after climbing out of his race machine.

The win this weekend helped Thomson to close the gap in the driver points standings between his 2nd place standing and first place driver Scott Steckly to within just 20 points.

The Team will have a weekend off before returning to the road course configuration with the next event; the Vortex Brake Pads 200 at Mosport International Raceway Sunday, June 26.  The Keystone Light 200 from Delaware Speedway will air on TSN on June 26th at 1 pm EST.

Ed Hakonson Racing is proud to be partnered with Farmers Feed Families, Snap-on Tools, Choko Motorsports, Castrol, Fast Eddie Racewear, Permatex and Cathcart Trucking.
