Sunny Weather Brought On Some Hot Racing!

September 17th, 2006, Fredericton, NB – Switching to Sunday racing might have been a good thing as mother nature finally decided to cooperated and bring on the good weather. Today’s event features a double feature for the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman with points racing PLUS the remaining 120 laps of the Martin’s Home Sportsman 125 that had been rained out earlier in the season. The fans saw a great show with excellent and competitive racing in all three divisions as the points racing is winding down.


In the Coast Tire Street Stock feature the #18 of John Feltmate took home the victory with a challenging second place finisher, the #54 of Rick Cashol. Feltmate had some gruesome competition coming from Cashol and rookie, Jason Shannon who rounded out the top three. The current points champion, Joe Albert, was having troubles earlier in the race but settled for a good fifth place position.

In the CARQUEST Pro Stock division the #01 of Kevin Moore went from wreckers to checkers in the span of two weeks. A few weeks ago at the Irving Oil 250, Moore had some technical difficulties and unfortunately ended his race early only to take home the checkers this week. Finishing in the second position was the big black Dodge, the #81 of Glen Rasmussen. Rasmussen and Moore battled it out for the first position but settled for their finishing positions. Rounding out the top three was the #8 of Hurricane Hal O’Neil. O’Neil came up through the field with a starting position of 6th. The Pro Stocks put on an good show with no cautions in the entire 40 laps.

In the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division the drivers put in a very long day with two races in today’s event. In the feature the #41 of Robert Lee took home his first win of the season with the #37 of Bradley Logan in the second position. Rounding off the top three was the #25 of Jeremy Graham. Graham had troubles with the car earlier in the week but tweaked the car just right to take home the third spot. For the remaining 120 laps of the Martin’s Home Heating 125, fans saw another podium finish for the #37 of Bradley Logan who took home the first spot. In second position was the #23 of Lonnie Sommerville. Sommerville also had a podium finish two weeks ago in the Irving Oil 250 where he came in the first position to win a pocket full of cash. Rounding off the top three was the #33 of Charlie Wilkins. Wilkins started the race in the 10th position and fought his way through the pack to finish in third.

The points are getting tighter and closer each week as racing season in soon coming to an end. Next week will feature another Sportsman event with the Firecracker 150 on Sunday, September 24th. Could Gillespie take home the second half of the Home for Home event with Riverglade? Only the fans who come check out next weeks race will know.
