MARITIME PRO STOCK TOUR: Flemming focused on fourth title

HALIFAX, NS (June 1, 2010) - Three-time Maritime Pro Stock Tour champion John Flemming is looking to change his handle - to four-time champion; he'll start his bid for the title this Saturday at Scotia Speedworld.

Flemming, one of the regions most popular drivers, has been on somewhat of a hiatus from the series over the past three seasons - splitting his time between the series, racing in the U.S. - and family. Now the kids are older and Flemming returns to the track with the enthusiasm of a rookie.

"I can't wait," said Flemming, the Maritime Pro Stock Tour's only three-time champ. "We're more ready than we have ever been and we've got a crew that is just as excited and dedicated as I am - if not more."

Flemming has two No. 97 Roofing Connection Dodge racecars in his stable - both ready for pro stock tour competition. In preparation for his 2010 championship goal he's had one real-time test session at a race in Maine earlier this year, and three practice sessions at Scotia Speedworld.

"The car is good," said Flemming. "And we're getting seat time for me and crew time for the guys - the more the better for all of us. We're eager to get at it"

Flemming's team will consist of three former crew members and newcomers - one of which is 2005 series champion and Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame member Rollie MacDonald, a Maritime stock car racing legend, who will offer help to Flemming on an interim basis.

Flemming, who has been driving racecars since 1984 when he started in the street stock division at Scotia Speedworld, was the series champion in 2002, 2003 and 2006. He was runner-up for the 1994 MASCAR Rookie of the Year title and has dozens of pro stock wins to his credit since then including being the inaugural winner of the Atlantic CAT 250 in 2000; Flemming is the only Canadian driver to win the prestigious event during it's era of international sanction (2000-2008).

Flemming is proud to make his 2010 title bid with the support of longtime primary sponsor The Roofing Connection, who not only offer sponsorship assistance but whose owner Pat Ryder also works as part of the crew. Dartmouth Dodge will join Flemming Motorsports as an associate sponsor for the 2010 season - rekindling memories of Flemming's career when his Dodge dominated regional race tracks to win his three titles.

The CARQUEST Maritime Pro Stock Tour competes at four different tracks in the three Maritime provinces - all of which Flemming has scored pro stock feature wins, perhaps the only active regional pro stock driver to do so.

The 2010 Maritime Pro Stock Tour season is comprised of 11 events in which the drivers score points based on their finishing positions; the driver who scores the most points cumulatively is the series champion. The 2010 CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour season kicks off Saturday at Scotia Speedworld (located near the Halifax Stanfield International Airport) starting at 4 p.m.
