LONDON, ON - After a long off season full of contract negotiations and equipment preparation , Jason White and his A&W drive thru pit crew showed up on Saturday at Delaware Speedway for the “Keystone Light 200” with one thing on their mind; compete for a top five finish.
The day started out with consistent practice laps that placed White in the middle of the pack in the 23 car field. As the day went on the team continued preparing for qualifying but unfortunately got penalized by NASCAR for being one minute late for technical inspection. This penalty was handed down in the form of a lap lost during qualifying. “It was tough to go out and qualify on fresh tires knowing we only had one lap”, said White. “ I did what I could but it felt like the car was on roller skates”. White would qualify for the race in the 19th starting position.
With the weather threatening to change to rain at any moment, Nascar made the decision to bump up the start of the race and drop the green flag on the 2010 Nascar Canadian Tire series season. Jason wasted no time moving forward and avoiding the many dust ups that had been going on in front of him. “ Things got pretty busy right from the drop of the green flag”, stated the British Columbia based driver. “ I locked onto the #02 car and followed him into the top ten, things were going very well and I was comfortable with the car”.
On lap 130 crew chief Bill Burns called Jason in for fresh tires and fuel, unfortunately this would be the end of the teams chance for a top five finish. The crew had a problem with a wheel stud popping out the back of the hub, which would cause the team to go down two laps to the leader, and dashed away any hopes for a good finish. “ Its a shame we had the trouble in the pits”, White said. “ Our car was really fast and I was definitely destined for a top five, but that's the way racing goes....you take the good with the bad”
Never being one to give up, Jason soldiered on for the last fifty laps and avoided what turned out to be a fury of wrecks and fiberglass flying. When the checkered flag flew and the tempers of many drivers rose, Jason had brought the A&W Impala home in 15th spot with no damage to the car, but a very disappointed crew. “The boys were really down”, said White. “ I assured them racing is a team sport and we have to win and lose as a team, and we will win one of these races in the near future”.
The A&W team will get back on track next weekend for the “Vortex brake pads 200” at the legendary Mosport International Speedway road course. Follow Jason as he updates his Facebook and Twitter pages (Racinjasonwhite) all weekend long.

A&W food services of Canada, is Canada's original hamburger quick service restaurant chain, and today is one of its fastest growing. The first A&W drive-in restaurant in Canada opened on Portage Avenue in Winnipeg in 1956. The combination of great tasting burgers, onion rings and frosted mugs of famous A&W Root Beer served by friendly carhops was an instant hit. Since then, A&W has continued to grow and evolve with the times, expanding into over 700 locations from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland. At the heart of that growth is the fact that, while so much of our world has changed, the simple things that made A&W so popular in its early days are the same today. We still serve A&W Root Beer in frosted mugs. Our onion rings are made fresh from whole onions every day. With a rich history behind us, we look forward to an even more exciting future ahead of us. A&W is expanding all across Canada, with particular emphasis on Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic.
