Kawartha Speedway 2010: The curtain is about to rise

After one of the most timid winters in recent memory, racers and fans are anxious to see Kawartha Speedway’s 2010 season get underway Friday, June 4th.  This will be the prestigious Fraserville, Ontario oval’s 10th Anniversary campaign and track officials have been working since the final checkered flag of 2009 to make it a memorable year for all concerned.  The 10 event schedule includes a regular faire of NAPA Auto Parts Late Model, Better Carpet Thunder Car and Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stock action.  With several new teams joining the fold and others moving into new divisions, General Manager and Promoter Derek Lynch is optimistic about this year’s car counts.

“I don’t think we’ll have a problem drawing 20 or more cars in each of our regular classes each time we run,” said Lynch.  “We have a commitment from at least 3 new late model teams who say they’re going to run the entire season.  The thunder cars always have solid numbers and you can never tell who’ll show-up with a mini stock from week-to-week.  Going into opening night, I’m very hopeful.”

Also on this year’s bill will be a pair of OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Model special events, 4 appearances by the Ontario Legends Series and a visit by the Ontario Pro Challenge racers.  The year closes out with the annual NASCAR Canadian Tire Series finale – Saturday, September 25th.  In each of the tour’s first 2 stops, Kawartha’s 250 lap shootout was the deciding race in determining the series’ overall championship.

Again this year, Kawartha Speedway’s NAPA Auto Parts Late Model track champion will earn a guaranteed starting spot in the annual ACT Tour Invitational – Saturday, September 19th at Loudon, New Hampshire.  In 2009, Dan McHattie and Brandon Watson were both selected to represent the popular 3/8th mile oval and did a great job to spotlight the racing talents that come from north of the border.

Another highlight of this year’s program will be the annual Late Model Summer Sizzler – Friday, July 9th.  The event will be run in an ‘invitational’ format, with three 50 lap segments.  The following week, Earl Ireland Auto Sales presents the annual Fan Appreciation night, with a special 50 lap mini stock feature to wrap-up the evening.

During 2010, fans can look forward to seeing 10 events of racing.  With the shortened schedule, the track will make every possible effort to make-up any events that may be postponed by inclement weather.

Kawartha Speedway is located minutes from Peterborough, Ontario near the intersections of county road 28 and highways 35/115 and 7.  See the full 2010 schedule at www.kawarthaspeedway.com.
