CAITLIN JOHNSTON GETS PLENTY OF ATTENTION AT TORONTO INDY

July 17, 2010. Caitlin Johnston of Orangeville, Ontario was making her second career start in the NASCAR Canadian Tire series Saturday during round four at the Toronto Indy weekend. And much like during her first outing Johnston and the #01 Pizza Pizza Dodge attracted big crowds and plenty of attention.

As the teams took to the track for practice Johnston was anxious to get out and run as many laps as possible in the #01 Pizza Pizza Dodge during the one hour session. Unfortunately a problem ahead of her caused her to take evasive action. Despite her best efforts the car was damaged and could not be repaired so her first full laps of the track would come during qualifying. “I tried to avoid the problem but there was nothing more I could do” said Johnston.

Now forced to learn the track and put down her best qualifying effort at the same time Johnston showed well. “With concrete walls all around you and with such a bumpy track I did all I could but wanted to make sure the #01 Pizza Pizza Dodge was ready for the race” said the driver.

After attracting a great crowd during the driver autograph session Johnston climbed into her car and began the race in the #01 Pizza Pizza Dodge looking to continue to learn about the cars, track and competitors and also improve her position. “The car felt great and we were starting to making tracks on the cars ahead of us” said the driver.

As Johnston continued to push the envelope in the #01 Pizza Pizza Dodge her lap times improved and also had to negotiate slower traffic. “We had some contact with another car and lost a brake line too so that would finish our race early” she stated. “But even though we didn’t complete the entire distance it was a great learning experience. Just learning more about these cars and the track it was a really successful weekend for us” she added.

Caitlin Johnston in hoping to race in more NASCAR Canadian Tire series events this year though no schedule is yet confirmed. “I’m anxious to work with Pizza Pizza to expand the program in this series. It’s the premiere racing series in Canada and this is definitely where we want to be going forward. We’re going to be working on that right away” she added.

Johnston will be back at the Toronto Indy Sunday for pictures and autographs from 10Am to 2PM in the Pizza Pizza Fan Zone on Thunder Alley.

The 2010 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series season consists of thirteen events from coast to coast All races will be televised on TSN.
