EDMONTON, AB, Sunday July 25 2010: Scott Steckly driver of the No. 22 Racing/Canadian Tire Dodge was second quickest in practice and in qualifying ran an almost identical time to start the Canadian Tire 100 in the fifth position. Steckly finished the 32 lap event in third place.
The No. 22 was fast during both practice session on Friday and Saturday and when all was said and done Steckly had posted the second quickest time.
In Qualifying the driver of the No.22 Racing/Canadian Tire Dodge was scored in fifth. Steckly navigated the 14 turn temporary course with a time of 1:21.262 and an average speed of 87.4 mph. After qualifying Steckly was disappointed with his fifth place qualifying effort stating “we were second in both practice sessions but will make some changes for the race and hopefully move up.”
As the green flag waved on Sunday afternoon for the 100km event, Steckly was on the inside of row three and was jockeying for position heading into the turn one. Steckly managed to maintain his position and would run in the top five for the first 20 laps of the race.
Steckly was still running in fifth when a late race caution occurred and on the restart he was able to pick up a position moving the No. 22 Racing/Canadian Tire Jumpstart Dodge into fourth place.
With only ten laps to Steckly was doing everything he could to try and catch the No. of 69 Trevor Siebert. “ we were not as good as he was in the area leading up to the good passing zone” commented Steckly after the race. “So I worked on getting better through that area so I could be in a position to pass him going into turn one” he added.
Steckly managed to do just that, as he caught Seibert and passed the No.69 heading into turn one just after the white flag flew. Steckly held off Seibert for the remaining13 turns and crossed the finish line in third.
Steckly is currently fourth in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series points standings.
Finish: 1. J. R. Fitzpatrick 2. Anthony Simone 3. Scott Steckly
