SIDES SNAGS A HAT TRICK AT OHSWEKEN

by Tommy Goudge (July 30, 2010) - Another World of Outlaws event at Ohsweken, another feature win for Jason Sides. The Bartlett, Tennessee driver led all thirty laps on Friday night to claim his third career feature win in four tries at the Styres-owned facility. Scott McPhail made his first ESSO Thunder Stock division start of the season a good one, as he took home the win in that twenty lap race.

WORLD OF OUTLAWS SPRINT CARS
Jason Sides and Jason Meyers started the thirty lap feature on the front row, and Sides took off immediately in search of his fourth win of the season. Sides cruised out front, slicing through slower traffic on the top and bottom of the Speedway. Meyers could not make any headway and then disaster struck for him on lap seventeen when he and Kraig Kinser were collected after Alain Bergeron spun in turn two.

Both Meyers and Kinser made repairs and joined the rear of the field for the restart. Up front Sides chose the bottom groove for the double file restart, with Steve Kinser to his outside. Sides reasserted his lead when the green flag dropped again, while Craig Dollansky darted into second. Dollansky and Schatz both closed the gap on Sides over the last few laps, but ran out of time to try for the win. Sides claimed the win by just over eight tenths of a second, while Dollansky settled for second, followed by Schatz, Joey Saldana, and Steve Kinser.

"This track's been good to us," said Sides after the race. "It's a great place, and great fans and everything, so it's just one of those places we really like. It's just one of those places that we can run the top or the bottom, and slip and slide through the middle, and it's just a good race track. It got a little slick there in the heats, and after it sat for a few minutes before the dash the moisture came back to it and it got pretty good."

Dollansky's crew thrashed to change the rear end in his car between heat race and dash race action. Their hard work paid off as the Minnesota driver finished second.

"We had a good run going there at Drummondville as well and broke a driveline about the second lap into the feature," said Dollansky. "I thought we were clear of that, but we started off tonight again with driveline issues. It's good to get a car that got to the end here tonight, and we kept digging and the guys did a good job changing things. I'm just glad we got this event in. We've seen the Canadian fans here, and a little bit of rain has plagued this place the last couple years, so I'm glad we got some good weather."

Schatz came close to getting his fourth consecutive runner-up finish at Ohsweken, but settled for third.

"Wish we had a little more time there," said Schatz afterwards. "It seemed like the longer it went, the better we got. I have a great car. Every time we make changes to it, you can feel it here. It's just fun to come race, and it's fun when the track's like that."

Heat races for the thirty-six car field were claimed by Danny Lasoski, Chad Kemenah, Joey Saldana, and Craig Dollansky. Jason Sides won the Dash, and Randy Hannagan got the B-Main victory. Kraig Kinser was the fastest of ten drivers who broke the track record on Friday night with a lap of 12.047 seconds around the three-eighths mile oval. Lasoski's heat win was also a new record for the eight lap distance at Ohsweken.

The World of Outlaws return to Ohsweken tomorrow night, July 31 for the "Six Nations Showdown" presented by Arrow Express.

ESSO THUNDER STOCKS
Scott McPhail and Billy Bleich started the twenty lap feature on the front row, and McPhail got out to an early lead. The action was intense early on as five cars diced for position at the front of the pack. The race was red-flagged before halfway when Derek Martin tagged the wall and nearly flipped down the backstretch. Upon returning to all fours, Martin's car was tagged in the left rear by Mike Miller which did heavy damage to both vehicles.

The field strung out a bit as the race went on, and the best battle on the track for many laps was Dave Bailey versus Mark Fawcett for the third spot, while Bleich tried to keep up with McPhail out front. Bleich suffered a flat right rear tire and took his car to the pits, leaving Fawcett to contend with McPhail for the win. Fawcett drew alongside on a couple of occasions, but could get no closer. McPhail held on for the win, followed by Fawcett, Mike Thorne, Dave Bailey, and Rob Disher.

"It's been sittin' for two years!" said McPhail of his car in the Engine Pro Winner's Circle. The car last raced at Ohsweken in 2008 with teammate Bernard Neiburg behind the wheel. "I could just see the corner of (Fawcett). I thought it was the 108, but something happened to him. It was an excellent race. This is a great venue and the racing here is awesome."

Heat races for the twenty-two car field were claimed by Rob Disher, Mike Thorne, and Billy Bleich. Terry Osmond was the hard charger for the event, moving up from seventeenth on the grid to finish seventh.
