Scotia Speedworld is Getting AMP'ed up for Racing Friday Night!

(Halifax, NS) Scotia Speedworld is proud to present AMP Energy night this July 23. Five divisions of racecars will see action under the lights at the 3/10 mile oval, including the Hydraulics Plus Bandoleros, Legends, Sportsman and the Tirecraft Thunder and Lightning cars. Heat races to determine the qualifying order for each feature will begin at 7:00 pm. Features are expected to get underway by 8:00 pm. In addition to seeing some fierce action on the track fans will also have an opportunity to win some great prizes courtesy of Pepsi!

Last week the Hydraulics Plus Bandolero’s had company visiting from out of town, three Bandolero cars made the trip from Fredericton to join our Bandolero regulars for a 20 lap feature. However, the pleasantries were set aside when racing began as Emily Meehan (Rawdon) and Cole Butcher (Porters Lake) were the cars to beat on this night. Butcher took home his third win of the season and Meehan ended up second when the checkers flew. Meehan continues to hold top spot in the point standings but Butcher is making up ground and sits only one point behind Miss Rawdon Rocket.

The Legends and Sportsman divisions were off last week; most teams took advantage of their off week and traveled to Riverside International Speedway for some action at 1/3 mile high banked oval located just outside of James River NS. Legends Weekly Racing Series regulars Cy Harvey (Enfield) and Steve Pye (Lantz) travelled to Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina to compete in the Legends Millions race. Both divisions return to Scotia this Friday as the battle for the championship resumes.

The best four cylinder cars in Atlantic Canada got to show their stuff last Friday night as the Tirecraft Thunder and Lightning cars saw 50 laps of action on Twins Night. The Thunder car race was slowed by several cautions, when the dust finally settled Dave Matthews (Kennetcook) took home his second victory of the season and became the first two-time winner of 2010 in the division. The Tirecraft Lightning cars also enjoyed their 50 lap event, all but Russell Smith Jr (Lakeside) perhaps who was schooling the field before the lights literally went out in his #144 machine just moments before the end of the main feature. Nick Hurshman pounced on Smith’s misfortune as he took the victory on a big night for all the four cylinders.

Can Dave Matthews three-peat or will the Thunders see a second two time winner? Can Russell Smith Jr find redemption and steal back a win? Join us under the lights Friday night to find out!

Admission for the Weekly Racing Series is $12.00 for adults; $2.00 for youth aged 8-15; children 7 and under are admitted free. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Pit admission is $15.00 and restricted to those 16 and older. Tickets are available at the gate on race day.
