NCATS: Don Thomson's Home Hardware Chevy comes home fourth in Toronto

TORONTO, ON (July 17, 2010)– NASCAR driver Don Thomson Jr and his Home Hardware team were in Toronto this past weekend to compete in the inaugural Canadian Tire JumpStart 100, in support of the Honda Indy Toronto.

The weather was hot and the crowds were large as 31 NASCAR teams navigated the twists and turns of Toronto’s picturesque street course on Saturday afternoon.

Thomson was just outside the top ten in practice on Friday morning and set about making changes to his Home Hardware Chevy in preparation for qualifying later the same afternoon. The changes proved to be the right ones as he muscled his #4 Chevy into a 7th place starting position.

Unlike many races in the past the entire field got off to a very clean start and Thomson held position in the early going. The Home Chevy was handling well and Thomson would settle in, save his tires and brakes and press hard at the end.

The race was slowed by two full course yellow periods, the final one setting the stage for a green-white-checker finish. Thomson deftly negotiated the crazy last laps and would bring the Home Chevy to the line in 4th position, his second best finish for the season and setting the stage for next week’s road course race at the Honda Edmonton Indy. That strong finish, coupled with his 3rd place finish in the last race has propelled Thomson into 5th in the Championship standings.

“I am really happy with that finish today, said Thomson. The Home Hardware team worked hard to put a good car under me and I am really happy to get another top 5 finish. The car is in perfect condition too so this gives us a lot of momentum heading into the Indy race in Edmonton next week as well.” he added.
