With another hot week ahead of the management and staff at Brighton Speedway, everyone is looking forward to the rescheduled night of school bus racing action this coming July 24.
With four races lost to rain, events to be scheduled are adding up but all efforts are being exerted to ensure that the racing action continues. The heavy rains between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Saturday evening caused unrecoverable damage to the racing surface forcing officials to quit the night before it even started.
Track General Manager Angela Rinaldi said, “drivers and fans were sorely disappointed by the last minute rains that practically flooded the racing surface.”
The Mid Summer Scorcher is in the process of being rescheduled as schedules for all tracks are looked at.
The new addition to the 2010 schedule was set to be a highlight of the season with $1500.00 on the line for Pro Late Model drivers and $1000.00 for the Canadian Modified/IMCA feature winner.
Anticipation is high as the Leon’s Trenton School Buses take to the 1/3rd mile clay oval this coming July 24 at 7:00 pm. Expected are 13 full size school buses to race in full competition. This popular event began in 2005 and has awed spectators since the drop of the first green flag five years ago.
Back in the driver’s seat once again is Mike Workman of Workman Auto Repair, one of the original participants of the twice yearly event. “It’s exciting to get back behind the wheel of the bus. All of the drivers look forward to the race and chasing down the checkered flag,” he said.
Don’t miss the action this Saturday as Deerhaven Farm & Garden presents the School Bus Races alongside a complete race program including the Bainer’s Radiators Canadian Modifieds, Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks, Bill’s Johns Comp 4’s and the Quinte Towing Stingers. Racing will begin at 7:00 pm and admission is only $25.00 for a family pass. Be sure to watch brightonspeedway.com as race events are rescheduled or contact the Speedway office.
