Canadian driver Jake Thompson heads to Chicago this weekend for Round 6 of the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup at Autobahn Country Club. Coming off an up and down start to the season, Thompson enters the second half sitting 3rd in the championship standings, and a serious contender for the overall crown. “On the one hand I am a little bit disappointed with the first half of the season, as I feel the speed was there to be on the podium a few more times, but at the same time I was able to salvage decent results when things could have been a lot worse, so we are still in a good position for the points”.
Last year Jake managed a solid 6th place finish at the Autobahn race despite a rather eventful weekend. He spun in both practice and qualifying which severely limited his track time, but was able to recover and drive a steady race. Thompson understands that a good point’s haul will be crucial this year, as after Chicago the series enters its home stretch with double headers at Road America and Puebla, Mexico. “The Championship is going to come right down to the wire, and the upcoming double headers will be critical, so I am just looking for a solid finish this weekend to put myself in a good position heading into those final events”.
This weekend Thompson will once again be raising money for the children’s charity Right To Play. Thanks to our generous donors our total is now up to $50.95 for every lap Thompson completes during the 2010 season, and with 109 laps already recorded, over $5000 has been pledged towards this great cause.
