Revised South Buxton Raceway Rainout

In both 2008 and 2009, weather postponements reduced South Buxton Raceway's regular seasons to just 10 races.

This Saturday's postponement was only the second of the 2010 season – the first since May 8.

In between the postponements, South Buxton has raced 10 consecutive weeks to equal the total of regular season races in each of the last two years.

There are six weeks remaining in the regular season, leading up to the Season Championship Night on Sept. 11 and the annual Shootout on Sept. 25.

Saturday's racing program was cancelled just before noon after heavy rainfall on Friday left the track and facility in precarious condition.

With the forecast of more severe weather threatening to hit South Buxton in mid-afternoon – around the time the Junior Fan Club Party was scheduled to start – track officials ruled on the side of caution and canceled the day's program.

Although the storms never materialized, it was still doubtful that track crews would be able to get the facility race-ready from Friday's rainfall.

The 2010 season continues on July 31, with the Don Hendricks Memorial feature race for the Dover Sanitation UMP Late Models. The race is held in honour of one of the track's most successful and popular drivers from the 1970s and 80s.

The following weekend will be a doubleheader of action.

The Southwestern Ontario Tractor Pullers Association returns on Aug. 6, for the second annual South Buxton Raceway Tractor Pull. The following night Aug. 7, will be the third annual Country View Golf Course Cup night. The Junior Fan Club Party, which was postponed on Saturday, has been rescheduled for Aug. 14. The grandstands open at 5:30 p.m. with racing and the tractor pull starting at 7 p.m.

Points Races
Essex's Doris Lajeunesse has led the Windride Transportation Sport Stocks division standings since opening night.

His opening night feature win, however, is his only checkered flag in 10 weeks. Lajeunesse's consistency, as evident by his six top-five finishes in eight features, has allowed him to stay atop the standings.

Chatham's Eric Vanderiviere, however, has moved to within nine points of Lajeunesse, thanks to two feature wins in the last three race nights. Vanderiviere has three feature wins and six checkered flags for the season but three DNFs in features has stalled his march to the top. Essex's Gerald Martin – Lajeunesse's step-father – has also been a consistent finisher despite only two checkered flags and no feature wins as he is third in points, 50 points off the lead. Merlin's Brad McLeod has opened a 28-point lead over defending Schinkels Gourmet Meats UMP Modified points champion Jim Dale Jr. of Shrewsbury, who had a 101-point leading in early June before motor issues allowed the pack to catch up.

Wyoming's Brian Speelman moved into third, 85 points off the lead, while Chatham's C.J. Field dropped from second to fourth in one week.

Belle River's Mario Toniolo is fifth in points, 116 behind the leader, as he is followed by the McIntyres from Windsor – son Dan and father Emerson – with Leamington's Joel Dick eighth.

Blenheim's Shawn Jones leads a pair of Cottam drivers atop the Four Seasons Driver Education Comp 4 standings.

Jones is 68 points ahead of Rob Quick while Denis DeSerrano is fourth, just 82 points back despite missing a race night.

The Chatham team of Rick Balasin and Jamie St. Pierre remain third in points despite just one checkered flag all season, 72 points behind Jones.

Nate McNally of Charing Cross is fifth in points despite being parked for two weeks for disciplinary actions. McNally has won four features, including two in a row before Saturday's rainout. Dale Glassford of Ridgetown continues to lead Chatham's Brad Authier by 79 points atop the Dover Sanitation UMP Late Models.

Glassford, Authier and Wallaceburg's Mike Lewis all have two feature wins.
Along with Glassford's two wins, the defending series champion has finished second in each of the other six features. Glassford has five wins and 14 second-place finishes in the 24 total races in the class this season.
